This study of 100 9th grade students in a California school shows how positive emotional refocusing, using techniques developed by the Institute of HeartMath, significantly affects emotional intelligence and improves autonomic recovery from stress. Based on a controlled study that included helping students learn and practice emotional refocusing techniques, the results show that a bio-psychosocial model can greatly benefit all young people through improving performance and reducing the damaging effects of stress.

Student-Created Experiment to be Conducted in Space -- iLEAD goes into the Cosmos.
By Kathleen Fredette and Matt Watson

We can all look back and pinpoint pivotal experiences that impact, shape and move us along.

Imagine yourself being asked to present your ideas in front of professionals, specialists, "do-ers." Then further picture this taking place in one of the most visited museums on the planet, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, in Washington, D.C. Also note that the gallery remains open to the public so that the presentations can be part of the public visitors' experience. Got that?

This is exactly what two of our iLEAD teams did at the end of July.

How did THAT happen? And what does it mean for those young people, their families, facilitators and iLEAD?

Angie Nastovaska Impacts the Global Education System Again.
By the iLEAD Maker Team

Some of most popular buzzwords on the global educational scene are "equitable education," "cross-disciplinary rigor," "social emotional learning," and "digital literacy." At iLEAD, these aren't just buzzwords; it's what we are committed to, a different way of doing education.

In connection with the collaborative work on the Maker team, the global educational scene, represented by International Baccalaureate, reached out to Dr. Angie Nastovska, requesting her professional support in the development of workshops. This multifaceted  role takes her on a second journey to the Hague, Netherlands, on Sept. 7. This will be her second time asked to serve, but this time in a very different and more impactful capacity.

'Get Lit Rising,' 'Hamilton' and the Kennedy Center!

By Brad Koepenick

With the upcoming launch of the Simon and Schuster release "Get Lit Rising" (a new book by Diane Luby Lane and the Get Lit Literati), the troupe hit New York to perform with "Hamilton's" Tony award winner Daveed Diggs, attend the final two nights of "Hamilton" with the original cast, meet all the players, tour the set and ignite a poetic fire throughout the city.

A Southwest Airlines camera crew followed the troupe eastward throughout, as Daveed and cast provided interviews on the importance of arts education and how and why "Get Lit" changes lives. Lin Manuel Miranda and his team provided full access and the experience of a lifetime for all and their positivity, support and grace cannot be understated. Gratitude abounds.

Family Focus: A Lottery Win Proves Big Not Only for Two Now-SCVi Learners, but also for Their Mom, Too.
By iLEAD Schools

When Brittney Zimmer put her two children's names on the lottery list at SCVi, iLEAD's founding school, little did she know that she'd find a home for not just her kids, but also for herself.

Brittney had heard great things about SCVi from a friend who has two SCVi learners there and serves as a parent representative on the school board. She heard equally great things from an SCVi upper school learner that Brittney had nannied for several years while the girl was growing up. This parent and learner perspective, and the fact that Brittney's son was struggling in a more traditional classroom environment, was enough for Brittney to make the move.

By Dr. Charles Fay of Love and Logic

Have you ever been in a spot with your kids when you felt like Love and Logic just wasn't working? I have!
