One of the Green Team Members, Bryanna, recently went to Yellowstone National Park for a month-long training, provided with support from the National Park Service and Groundwork USA. In the first week alone, Bryanna was exposed to at least 5 different trainings and met youth from all over the United States. She learned about trail work including how to maintain and design trails for hikers which involved "shrubbing" where she and her other youth counterparts trimmed tree limbs to open up the paths and cut logs to create the borders of walking paths. Bryanna even got a chance to paint buffalo pens!
The month was full of a lot of work, hot days and mosquitoes, but the views, the waterfalls, the geysers and the connections she made with other youth made it all worth it!
Bryanna said she would definitely do it all over again. "I cried because I was going to miss everyone", said Bryanna. She said her favorite part of the Yellowstone trip came in the closing days of it all where "you know it was ending ... and you know this was going to be the last time you are going to see everyone ... so you got to enjoy, make the best out of it and chill". One of the last nights that Bryanna was at Yellowstone, the group hiked 10,000 feet above sea level and to their surprise, came across snow in July. Another night, the group watched a movie outside and then stargazed. Overall, this experience made a huge impression on this Green Team high school student-- one that will surely last for the rest of her life!

Our second largest city-wide cleanup next to Earth Day, Comcast Cares Day, the Spicket River Cleanup provides an opportunity for the community to come together and beautify the city along the Spicket River, which crosses Lawrence and Methuen. This is a great time to gather neighbors, family, friends, co-workers, and neighborhood associations to form a group and get the work done while creating and strengthening bonds.
