Partnering for Active & Healthy Schools
|
Groundwork Lawrence is invested in educating future environmental/public health leaders of Lawrence. Through our partnership with Lawrence Public Schools we provide urban ecology and schoolyard gardening programming to eleven schools, reaching nearly 1,200 youth! Additionally, we reached over 300 youth in our summer program last year.

Our urban ecology program focuses on urban wildlife, plant science, ecosystems and habitats and healthy living in a service learning atmosphere that promotes community engagement and citizen science. By getting kids out in the natural urban landscape they are able to connect with their city and realize the natural assets right in their backyard!

The demand for our hands-on, interactive learning has grown tremendously in the past few years. In fact, we have more than doubled the number of engaged youth in just one year. With the help of our supporters we aim to increase the number of schoolyard gardens and partner with more schools to further spread much needed urban ecology and environmental education to Lawrence youth.
To accommodate the growth in our urban ecology and schoolyard garden programs we have expanded our education team here at GWL. Who are these wonderful educators? Meet our newest team members, Stephanie Maraldo and Laura Olivier, and our other educators here!
