BMBat Mitzvah
Netanya Sadoff

Hi, I'm Netanya Sadoff and I'm a 7th grader at Dakota Hills Middle School. The people in my family are my Mom, Tammy, my Dad, Naften, and my older brothers, Josh and Zach, who are twins. I also have a very sweet Black Lab Mix named Sal. My favorite things to do include reading, drawing, playing video games, and listening to music such as "Fall Out Boy" and "Twenty One Pilots".

My parsha is Vayechi. In this parsha, Jacob blesses Joseph's sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, and all of Joseph's brothers before dying soon afterwards. When he blesses Joseph's sons though, he gives the younger son, Ephraim, the better first born blessing. I wondered what Manasseh, the eldest son, thought about his rightful blessing being taken by his younger brother? You will have to come to my Bat Mitzvah and hear my D'var to find out.

For my tzedakah project, I am doing a couple of different things. First, I am making blankets for the dogs and cats at the Animal Humane Society. When the pets get adopted, the blankets go with them and help the animals adjust to their new surroundings. They also put the blankets in the crates when they transport animals from the shelter so that the crates are more comfortable. Second, I am donating stuffed animals to Children's Hospitals of Minnesota. I am donating stuffed animals to kids at the hospital who have to miss the holidays with their families. The stuffed animals comfort the children who can't be home with their family during the holidays, and helps them feel less frightened. When I was 5, I had to spend a few nights in the hospital, and I remember how scary that was. I want to help others feel less lonely and sad, especially at this time of year.

Judaism in the
21st Century:
A Discussion Group
Thursdays at 10 am
with Rabbi Tamar

How do we understand and express our Judaism in the 21st Century? As Jews we find ourselves compelled to respond to the challenges of our ever-changing world, scientific discovery and increased awareness of the suffering in our world. Arthur Green says that these experiences create "challenges to conventional theological views." We will use Green's book Radical Judaism to explore these ideas together and create an open space in which to share new ideas.
