MFFF

Help Migrant Families

scales
The Beth Jacob Social Justice Committee would like to ask for your support of the Migrant Family Food Fund, which provides fresh, nutritious produce to migrant worker families who tend to crops that they cannot afford to feed their own families. Although these workers toil in the Minnesota fields from before sunrise until after sunset, their pay is not governed by the Minnesota minimum wage bill that passed last year.

The children of these families receive breakfast and lunch in their federally funded summer school program. However, during weekends, there is little food for the children or adults. The MFFF helps fill the gap by sending backpacks of healthful food home with their children at the end of the school week.

Contributions may be mailed to or dropped off at the shul office.

Vote Mercaz in WZO Elections
This Shabbat we mark the start of a new month as we start a new book of the Torah. Take 5 minutes to support MERCAZ's platform in the World Zionist Congress elections: progressive environmentalism in Israel, pluralistic-egalitarian religious options and Israeli government funding for the schools and institutions of Conservative/Masorti Movement. Help build our Israel. Our votes for MERCAZ Slate #2 can change the way Conservative Jews are represented in Israel.

It takes about 5 mintues to impact Israel. Go to votemercaz.org and vote MERCAZ Slate #2. ($10 fee to the election company; $5 for those ages 18-30).

After Israel's Elections - A New Course for Democracy?

A conversation with Noam Sheizaf
Editor-in-Chief of +972 Magazine, Israel's leading human rights news source

Tuesday, March 24 at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Hosted by Beth Jacob Congregation

Israelis voted on March 17 for a new government. Join one of Israel's leading news chroniclers to explore deeper trends at play, including attempts to roll back democratic freedoms and incitement against the Palestinian-Israeli minority.

How might social justice and democracy issues unfold? Will Israel advance a shared society for Jews and non-Jews and restrict the ultra-Orthodox rabbinate's control? Will we see an improvement in civil rights and social justice for all Israelis? What about human rights for Palestinians over the Green Line and African Refugees?

Noam Sheizaf is an Israeli Journalist. Noam writes mostly about Israeli politics, the diplomatic process and the occupation. His work has been published at Haaretz, Maariv, The Daily Beast, The Nation, Forein Affairs and other publications. Noam is the editor and executive director of +972 Magazine, where he also blogs. He lives with his family in Tel Aviv.
