This Sunday!
Dreaming of Jewish Learning
Presentation and Conversation
Sunday, June 29, 10:30 am-12:30 pm
This spring, Rabbis Allen and Emma visited the Jewish Enrichment Center in Chicago. They were deeply moved to witness a vibrant, engaged, embodied model of Jewish learning for kids and families that we think will inspire our community. Come learn with Rabbi Rebecca Milder, founder of the Jewish Enrichment Center, about what her community has created and how, and then talk together about what we dream for our children and families. Nosh served, babysitting available. RSVP here (helpful, not required).
For the curious, a few concrete things to take a look at before we meet:
And, for those who prefer their reading more theoretical: here is a link to an article Rabbi Milder wrote about child-centered Jewish exploration.

Yee-haw and yahoo and whatever other exclamation of delight you'd like to use - did we have a fabulous fundraiser or what?
Chairs Mike and Emer Keller had an inspired idea for an outdoor, family-friendly music festival. With the help of our ace Exective Director Sean Murphy, our amazing staff: the above-and-beyond hardworking Deb Collins, Barry Golob (oh! That logo! those flyers!), Frances Fischer (queen volunteer coordinator), Ultra-organized Cynthia Launer, Ben Cerny and those helpful USY'ers and a host of dedicated adult volunteers - it happened! The rain stopped, the wind died down and we bluegrassed and barbecued it up!
Those kitchen phenoms Natalya Mykytchuk and Steve Rosenthal, with our ever-present BJ volunteers, served up delicious chicken, potato salad, corn and more.
Partners twirling each other on the lawn to the High 48's....feet stomping to C.A. Waller's blues,.... the spontaneous circle dances to the mandolin of Peter Ostroushko and the guitar of Dean Magraw....and that view from the top of the bleachers-- our Beth Jacob banner strung across the stage, our shul and the treetops beyond - all golden!
Thanks to Hector Sztainer for leading games, Silly Miss Tilly for balloon animals, a generous donation to the auction and the best outfit of the day. Kudos to our face painter, Liba Zweigbaum Herman.
We just HAVE to say it one more time: Todah Rabah for:
Mike's and Emer's inspired direction and the hard work of their Steering Committee: David Honan, Sharon Press & Barry Kantrowitz (the Auction wizards), Brian and Laura Milberg, and Marni Tselos. And to the hardest working man in show business: Sean Murphy, who imaginatively thinks of everything and makes it happen.
Folks worked hard, we had a blast AND we raised a impressive amount for our precious shul!
GO TEAM GO!
We couldn't be prouder or more grateful.
-Rosanne Zaidenweber and Beth Friend

Hello from beautiful Somerset, New Jersey! This is Youth Director Ben Cerny, and for those of you who may not know, I am spending my summer as a staff person for "USY on Wheels: Classic", Bus B. USY on Wheels is an amazing trip that sends USYers from all over North America and the world on a trip around this great country of ours, taking them on a deeply immersive Jewish educational experience. I am spending this week in Somerset with staff from all the other Wheels buses (who will be taking our very own Lexi Foman, Michael Stiefel Alperin, and Charlie Rutman on the adventures of a lifetime) and a USY Israel Pilgrimage group staff (who will be staffing our very own Theo Walker and Sam Silver) learning how best to work with our wheelniks and pilgrims to make sure we all have the most wonderful summer we could possibly achieve. We have had sessions with motivational speakers about setting personal SMART goals for ourselves, sessions with social workers on how best to handle conflict resolution, gotten First Aid and CPR certified, sorted out so much food and more boxes of cereal than you could possibly imagine, all with the goal of curating the best possible environments for personal, Jewish growth in our wonderful mobile Kehilot. I will continue to post as often as I can to take you all on this wonderful adventure with me!
