Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg

This week we are honored to welcome Rabbi Sheila Peltz Weinberg to Beth Jacob. Rabbi Peltz Weinberg is a Reconstructionist rabbi, educator, poet and nationally recognized pioneer in contemplative practice, which combines eastern meditative practices with western religious thought. A co-founder of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality she has published widely on feminism, Judaism, spirituality, and single parenting. Rabbi Peltz Weinberg will give the d'var Torah on Shabbat.
After Rabbi Peltz-Weinberg finishes her d'var Torah, we will have two opportunities for Musaf. One will take place in the chapel, led by Yosi Gordon, and one will be in the sanctuary led by Rabbi Peltz Weinberg. The former will be a traditional Musaf, and the latter will be a meditative Musaf based on the teachings in her d'var Torah: Tefillah as transformational spiritual practice. Following her teaching, we will sing a niggun and allow folks to choose their places for Musaf.
After kiddush at 12:45, folks who would like to meet and reflect upon the experience will do so in the chapel.

 Making Your Tallit
For B'nai Mitzvah Families, or Anyone Interested
Sun. afternoon, June 1, 1-5 pm
Make your own tallit!
Led by Maxine Rosenthal and a team of able crafty volunteers.
Begin with fabric you love - a large scarf or sari, fabric from your family or fabric you find in a store - where the colors are right and it feels good when you drape it over your shoulders. With the guidance of fabric artists from our community paired with your imagination, we will turn these pieces of fabric into the tallitot we'll wear as we come into Jewish adulthood and beyond, stitching together our collective and individual pasts into the lives we'll live forward.
