Beth Jacob Now Has a Facebook Group
Beth Jacob has always had a Facebook "Page" ( 'Like' our Page here if you don't already), but the addition of a Group will allow us to announce things to Group members more directly, foster discussion, and communicate more effectively.
What's the difference between a Page and a Group? In Facebook's words:
Groups and Pages serve different purposes on Facebook. Groups are meant to foster group discussion around a particular topic area while Pages allow entities such as public figures and organizations to broadcast information to their fans.
Basically, it's another way to be a part of the Beth Jacob Community, and find out about events and other stuff from Beth Jacob and Beth Jacob Members (posting to the group is moderated, so you don't have to worry about a flood of messages).

The Haggadah and the Seder Online Course
Of all the famous lines in the Haggadah, one stands out-Why is This Night Different From All Other Nights? This is the question every child asks from the time s/he can sing a song. And the question continues to occupy adults as well-what is the meaning of all of these strange customs and prayers we say at the Seder?
In this course we shall see how the customs we still observe to this day originated and how they developed over the centuries. We shall see how the Seder was the rabbinic response to the loss of the Passover sacrifice that occurred with the destruction of the Temple in 70 C.E. The historical meaning and context of key customs, reclining, drinking wine, eating appetizers, washing hands, reciting blessings and eating specific foods will be examined. At the end of this course, the participant will be able to go to his/her seder armed with real answers-this night is different because.... Dr. Joshua Kulp is a co-founder of the Conservative Yeshiva where he has been teaching for eighteen years. He is the author of the Mishnah Yomit and Daf Shevui commentaries. He is also a co-author of The Schechter Haggadah: Art, History and Commentary, as well as a co-author of a forthcoming introduction to the academic study of rabbinic texts.
