Bat Mitzvah Profile:
Mimi Gewirtz
I am Mimi Gewirtz. I am in 7th grade at HMJDS. My favorite subject at school is science. This year we are focusing on biology. I just completed a project in which I made a model of a Hershey's Factory to explain how a cell works. This summer I'm really excited about going back to Camp Ramah Wisconsin. I love to see my friends there and keep in touch with them during the year. Camp is a special place. My parasha is Shemot, the first parashah in the book of Exodus (Shemot in Hebrew). It is in this section of the Torah that we meet Moses (Moshe) and where he is selected by God to represent the Jewish people in their struggles with Pharoah. You might know this scene as "the burning bush." One important thing I have learned is that Moshe was nervous about being a spokesperson because he didn't think he was very good at speaking. But God wanted him to do it all the same. So, if you work hard enough you can become more confident to be a leader. In my family, other than my mom and dad, I have a brother and two sisters. My brother is called Amos and he is at College. My older sister is called Meital and my younger sister is called Tamar. So you could say I'm a middle child. Last but not least, we have a 3-month old puppy called Lou. He is adorable but not so well behaved yet. Last year my family spent 5 months in Israel on a sabbatical. Tamar and I went to school at Mamad HaRovah in the old City of Jerusalem. It was an amazing experience.
Finally, my hobbies: I love to cook. I especially like to make desserts. I also love to do art: painting, drawing, printing, and sculpture. I go to art classes every week in Minneapolis at an amazing place called Studio 7.
