Harmony_TheatreCasting Call for Young Actors!

Young actors (ages 8 - 18) are invited to join HARMONY to participate in the upcoming production of "The Children's Republic," an original play based on the life and work of Doctor Korczak and his orphanage in the Warsaw ghetto. Performances will take place in April - May, 2014.

This activity is funded, in part, by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund. Co-sponsored by RAJMN, Genesis Philanthropy Group, and St. Paul JCC.

Janusz Korczak The great Jewish-Polish humanist Janusz Korczak was a pediatrician, professor, journalist and author, an original thinker who believed that all children are entitled to food, shelter, healthcare, and an education. In Europe before World War II, he was the equivalent of child champion and authority Dr. Benjamin Spock.

During the Holocaust, Korczak's orphanage was trapped in the walls of the Warsaw ghetto. When word spread secretly that the children of the orphanage were to be transported to a concentration camp, friends and admirers of Korczak warned him and provided the means for him to escape and save his life, but Korczak stayed with the children to the very end... "The Children's Republic," was first produced by Harmony Theatre in 2008 at the Sabes JCC.
