Hadassah and NCJW Oneg: Women of the Wall Sat., Nov. 16, 2-3:30 pm at Beth Jacob For 25 years, the Women of the Wall movement in Israel has led the fight for equal religious rights for women at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. WoW still faces controversy and strife in its on-going quest to allow women free access to pray at this holy site. Join the St. Paul Chapter of Hadassah at its fall Oneg at Beth Jacob Synagogue when Rabbi Emma Kippley-Ogman, Assistant Rabbi of Beth Jacob, will lead a discussion about the inroads the WoW movement has made in protecting religious freedom in the last 25 years, the challenges it still faces and the controversy that it engenders. The Oneg will be co-sposored by the St. Paul Chapter of NCJW. |

For over a millennia the ancient Israelites lived as free people in biblical Cna'an where they formed their identity and built the First and Second Temples. We will explore the complex geopolitical realities that successive sovereign Judean and Israelite leaders faced in the ancient Near East and learn about the local powers and superpowers of the region. We will follow the coming of Hellenism to the region through the last stand of the free Jewish people in Jerusalem (70 CE) and Masada (73 CE).
