Applying the Principles of Non-Violent Communication to the Process of Teshuvah
Tuesday evenings, 8/20 and 8/27, 7-8:30 pm
Although our tradition tells us that through teshuva (repentance) we can be completely forgiven for our wrongs, when it comes down to it, it can be very difficult to forgive ourselves as well as to forgive others, even if we are familiar with all the steps of teshuvah.
In this class we will learn the basics of Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and from there see how it can be used as a tool for doing parts of the work of teshuvah - specifically the steps of remorse, apology, and heshbon ha-nefesh (soul searching).
NVC is a practice built on developing empathy through understanding the underlying universal needs that prompt actions. It is a quick and effective road to compassion and can be used to help us come to true forgiveness of ourselves and others.
Pam Winthrop Lauer, a spiritual director for 12 years, has practiced NVC for six years. She's taken numerous trainings, and in her two years of teaching NVC has studied over fifty hours of Marshall Rosenberg's training videos. Sara Lynn Newberger will sit in to field questions about teshuvah in our tradition.
For more information, or if you can only attend one session, contact Pam at (952) 432-7038 or e-mail wpdj@usfamily.net

Jews and the Violin - A Shared History?
In The Violin, David Schoenbaum has combined the stories of its makers, dealers, and players into a global history of the past five centuries. From the earliest days, when violin makers acquired their craft from box makers, to Stradivari and the Golden Age of Cremona; Vuillaume and the Hills, who turned it into a global collectible; and incomparable performers from Paganini and Joachim to Heifetz and Oistrakh, Schoenbaum lays out the business, politics, and art of the world's most versatile instrument.
