Jim Bear Jacobs

Jim Bear Jacobs' work to get people talking about race and American Indian history started with a dream. That dream has propelled him to a leadership position in telling the story of American Indians, particularly, the story of the US Dakota War, what led to it and how Native American history unfolded from that war.
On February 2, Jim Bear will bring that story to Beth Jacob in a learning session sponsored by the Social Justice Committee.
Babysitting will be available.
You may want to read, watch or listen to one or more of the following in order to come to the session with some knowledge of what is called the US Dakota War.

The Beth Jacob Dish Collaborative
We use reusable dishes at home - why not also in our home-away-from-home, our shul?
Starting in February, join this new Kiddush lunch collaborative to reduce waste and build camaraderie.
How it works 
Klei Kodesh is entirely voluntary, and all are welcome to join:
- Pay a one-time fee of $7 per person; $25 family maximum.
- Commit to dishwashing duty 4-5 times a year, rolled into your kitchen duty commitments.
Each Klei Kodesh member receives:
- A place setting of Preserve� recycled plastic tableware, stored and rolled out on a cart for Kiddush luncheon each Shabbat along with the shul's stainless flatware.
- Training in water-conserving dishwashing techniques.

We daven and then we eat. But there's more to it than that. Some of us come just in time for kiddush; some of us shmooze all afternoon. Some of us are grateful to hang with other grownups while our kids get lunch; some of us look forward to those kitchen duty calls all year. We meet new people; we visit with old friends. We talk with a lot of people, or just a few. We share what's on our hearts or kibbitz about whatever playoffs are coming up next. Kiddush is our space and time for connecting as a community, and how we are at kiddush is an expression of our values.
Come talk with other Beth Jacob folks about how you spend your kiddush -- what you love and what you wish for -- and what we create together as a community in our hour together on shabbes afternoons.

Minnesota has been home to WARM (Women's Art Resources of Minnesota), an important center for American feminist art, since 1973. Riv-Ellen Prell and Naomi Zeveloff, deputy culture editor at The Jewish Daily Forward, join artists Joyce Lyon, Rachel Breen, and Jane Bassuk as they consider ideals of social activism that have impacted art made by Jewish women over the past 40 years.

Jewish Women's Morning at the Capitol

 Jewish Women's Morning at the Capitol (JWMC), organized annually by the National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah, is joining forces with the Minnesota Choice Coalition's Pro-Choice Lobby Day. As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade and a pro-choice majority in the Senate for the first time in decades, we can look forward to advancing women's reproductive healthcare and defending our rights to reproductive choice. That's why for this year's JWMC we have decided to stand together with the Choice Coalition to ensure that reproductive healthcare is included in Minnesota's Healthcare Exchange under the Affordable Care Act. Join us for this incredible opportunity to meet your legislators as we stand together to move Minnesota's women forward. Schedule: - 8:45am for breakfast and a legislative update
- 10:00 for "Lobbying 101" and an education session on Choice in Faith-Based Communities, Inequity and Access, or Starting the Conversation
- 11:00 for an inspirational rally in the rotunda followed by our Jewish Women's Luncheon
- 12:30 for lobbying appointments with your legislators

Help Federation Plan for the Future  The Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul is conducting a Community Planning Process which will begin with listening sessions throughout our community. Between March and May 2013, in dozens of small-group conversations, Jews and people living in Jewish households will be invited to discuss with each other what they value about our community as well matters of personal and communal concern affecting them. We want to understand why their concerns are important and what they believe are organized ways we can support each other to build, strengthen and sustain our community. By the end of the process, we hope to involve at least 400 people representing a diverse cross-section of individuals. More Information/How to Participate |
