Only 3 Days Left!
"Can't Light a Shammos without a Match"
An anonymous Beth Jacob member has promised a $100,000 "Shammos" matching gift if the shul community can raise $50,000 in new contributions (not part of the Annual Sustaining Contribution) by December 31. We've reached $45,000, and we need your help to reach our goal! How can you help?
As we near our financial goal, it is important for us to engage a wide base of grassroots support. Including those who have made a pledge to contribute, we have more than 175 donors who are participating in the year-end matching challenge. We need your help to achieve reach our goal of 200 individual donor families! Our offices will close at 4:00pm on Monday, December 31st, and we'll post a final tally of donations at that time.
- Send in or drop off a check to our office.
- Make a donation of stock (contact our office for the transfer account details)
- Contribute online through the PayPal link (no Paypal account required!) on our website:
Beth-Jacob.org/Donate.
All contributions, large and small, help close the gap - and every dollar you donate will be double-matched, tripling the value of your donation!

  JCPA Gun Control Petition
Following the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary, where a gunman murdered 26 children and adults, over 11,000 Americans have signed a Jewish Council for Public Affairs petition to make access to guns and mental health care a national priority.
From the Petition: We stand committed to working with our local, state, and national leaders to squarely address these issues and honor the victims, survivors, and their families. We recognize the right of Americans to own guns, but we do not accept the current state of affairs. We stand united and call on our leaders to support comprehensive action, including meaningful legislation to limit access to assault weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines, aggressive enforcement of firearm regulations, robust efforts to ensure that every person in need has access to quality mental health care, and a serious national conversation about violence in media and games.

Author Gerald Siegel
"You Shoulda Been There" After Kiddush (1:00), Jan. 12 You Shoulda Been There is a book of imaginative and often very funny stories about Jewish life in Brooklyn, Minnesota, Israel, and other places. The stories raise questions about family, community, and faith. Gerald Siegel (above) grew up in a close-knit, noisy, Jewish environment in New York in the 1930s and 40s; he moved to the Midwest in 1954 to study and ultimately settled in Minnesota, in 1961. The tales are written with affection for the old and the new, while craving an egg cream, a charlotte russe, and real kosher pastrami. To purchase, contact Siegel@umn.edu or Elijah's Cup; U of Minnesota Book Store; Micawbers; Temple of Aaron; Bet Shalom; Magers & Quinn; Sub Text.
