Cardboard Box City
Donations Requested
Dr. Heather Huseby, Executive Director of YouthLink, will speak at USY's and Kadima's Cardboard Box City on Saturday night. YouthLink is a "drop-in center" for homeless youth. At YouthLink, the kids who drop in can take a shower, get a hot meal, find some donated clean clothes, see a pediatrician, see a mental health worker, get identification documents (they need ID papers to be able to get food at food shelves), and make connections to education, jobs, and supportive housing. Please take a minute to take a look at YouthLink's web site to learn more.
The BJUSYers who come to Cardboard Box City are asked to bring a donation for YouthLink, and donations from anyone are welcome! Donations can be given to Ben.
We suggest:
- Clothing / Hygiene Products
Gloves/Mittens Socks Jeans Hygiene products - soap, chap stick, shampoo, etc. Coats (especially lg, xl, xxl) Bras (larger) Underwear (mens and womens) $40 will buy the youth a month of bus tokens/bus pass, which they use to get to and from work, school, and shelter. Financial donations could be in the form of a tax-deductible check made out to YouthLink.
It would be great if you could help our BJUSYers come with something to give to support homeless youth as they make their way down the path to safety and healthy development.

The Rodef Shalom Course:
The Jewish Art of Everyday Peacemaking
Taught by Rabbi Amy Eilberg
Thursday nights: Nov. 8th & 15th
7:15PM - 8:30PM
This course examines classical Jewish texts on the art of everyday peacemaking. Based on materials developed by the Pardes Institute: Conflict Resolution Institute, we will study fascinating, little-known texts on the pursuit of peace- exploring what it means for each of us to be a "Rodef Shalom" (a pursuer of peace) in our own lives. The Social Justice Committee Wants You!
The Beth Jacob Social Justice Committee is looking for a small group of people who are passionate about social justice, but don't have the time or inclination to plan events and programs. We hope to have a minyan or more upon whom we can call when we need to mobilize helpers to attend an event, make a few phone calls, help decide the direction in which the committee should go, or just provide support for our work. To join this social justice auxiliary, please phone or e-mail either:

Shabbat Enrichment
There will NOT be any 5th/6th grade class this Shabbat due to the 5th/6th-grade Community Shabbaton at Camp Butwin this weekend.
* This is a "B" - Bet week for Madrichim.
* There is NO Shalshelet this week... The 8th-graders can spend time in the sanctuary to help their classmate, Jacob Flaum, celebrate his Bar Mitzvah!
