Volunteer Outing at Bird Park 2013 Come one, come all!  Friends of Balboa Park is excited to host a celebration in Bird Park this weekend from 11 am to 3pm at the corner of Upas St., 28th St., and Pershing Drive in Balboa Park.   Enjoy children's activities, music, and learn about the flora and fauna in this special neighborhood park with our friends from the California Native Plant Society and the Audubon Society. We invite your participation!

Garden Party events!  Saturday, May 9
Celebrate 100 years of history and horticulture at this all day event highlighting the plants and programs that make Balboa Park one of the world's most interesting civic gardens!
  • 9:30 am - Kids' Floral Wagon Parade followed by a Marine Corps Plant Exchange Ceremony with Mayor Kevin Faulconer
  • "Our Park Our Treasure 1915-2015"  Floral Show hosted by the San Diego Floral Association  (FRI 5-8pm,SAT& SUN all day) at the Balboa Park Club
  • 4:00 pm - Youth Orchestra of the Californias at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion

Now Accepting Volunteers for County Fair

The theme for the SD County Fair is A Fair to Remember which will celebrate world's fairs and our 1915 Panama -California Exposition. The Fair is estimated to draw over 1.5 million visitors this year from June 5 to July 5!

 

Balboa Park will have its own 10' X 10' Information Center booth in the extremely popular garden area.  This booth will be situated next to scaled down versions of the CA Tower, the Botanical Building, the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, and a chalk drawing of the Lily Pond. All Volunteers will receive an admission ticket and a complimentary ticket to come back.  We're now helping to recruit volunteers for information booth shifts: 

  • Tuesday - Friday  11:00 am - 6pm       CLOSED on Mondays & TUES. June 9 & 16.
  • Sat. & Sun.  10:00 am - 6:30 pm          Please contact us by Monday, May 11 to signup

Arbor Day Celebration photos
Friends of Balboa Park celebrated a wonderful Arbor Day at the War Memorial Building April 24 by planting a grove of American Tulip trees. Girl Scout Troop 3289 dedicated a tree with their cookie earnings! (pictured)
