Messiah School's Weekly Email
Dear Families & Friends of Messiah Lutheran School,

There are so many exciting things happening this week!  Some of our 7th and 8th graders helped a neighbor in need with their yard work; our 4th and 5th graders just returned from an Underground Railroad reenactment field trip; the book fair will take place on Thursday and Friday; and more!

Read below for more of the ways that we work together to shine for Jesus!

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven

~Matthew 5:16

Refugee Care Kit Drive
Worldwide, nearly 60 million people are displaced by war and violence--the largest crisis of its kind since World War II.  Half of these people are children.  The Church, as the body of Christ, is called to care for the least, the stranger, and the vulnerable.

OUR GOAL AT MESSIAH CHURCH AND SCHOOL:

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Book Fair
Thursday, October 15-Friday, October 16
Messiah School is hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair on Thursday and Friday, 10/15-16.  Students love to shop this event, which benefits our school library program.  Join us for family night on Thursday, October 15 for shopping AND refreshments.

Volunteers are needed to make this much-loved annual event happen!  Help is needed with set-up on Wednesday, shopping on Thursday, family night on Thursday, shopping on Friday, or clean up.  Sign up below!

National Fire Safety Month
October is National Fire Prevention Month

Here at Messiah, we have monthly fire drills, including some with obstacles, as well as other safety drills throughout the year. We held another drill today, and reminded our students to plan for fire safety at home.

In your child's Big Envelope you'll find a checklist for fire prevention and safety in your home. We encourage you to complete the checklist with your child, and to make a family fire safety plan.  Also included is a 9V battery for a smoke alarm. Be sure to check your smoke alarms regularly, and replace smoke alarms that are over 10 years old.

You can find other fire prevention and safety resources at http://www.nfpa.org/safety-information .

Volunteer Lunch Monitors Needed
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
Looking for a way to help out at Messiah?  Are you good at working with kids?  Have some time regularly available at mid-day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays?  Messiah is looking for cafeteria monitor volunteers.  Monitors help students sign in for lunch, help monitor behavior (which, in general, is quite good), and help dismiss students in an orderly fashion.  Available to help us out from 11:00-1:00?  Send Mrs. Casselberry an email at hcasselberry@messiahfp.org.
