Mentoring In a World Forsaking God!

Last month, I wrote a blog post titled How to Mentor in a World Forsaking God. Maybe you were one of the thousands who read it. That post received more views than any post of all my blogs. It was off the charts! I didn't do anything different, but the post went "viral." I knew that God was sending me a three-fold message: (a) Mentoring is needed now more than any time in history (b) many were seeking guidance in how to mentor today (c) I was not to grow weary in encouraging women in "sharing life's experiences and God's faithfulness."

If you haven't read that
blog post, I encourage you to read it when you finish this newsletter. I include a survey I took on Facebook asking Women's Ministry Leaders if they included teenage girls in their events. Their responses were encouraging and enlightening.

I also posed this question in the
blog and answered it: "So how do we everyday ordinary Christian women make a difference in today's confused and fallen world?"

You and I can make a difference
! God is calling each of us to share our faith, even when it's uncomfortable or threatening. If the next generation doesn't have a firm foundation in their faith, they're going to fall ... and fall hard. To mentor them, you don't need to be a Bible scholar or have all the answers, but you do need to know how to find those answers in the Bible. Not just a Scripture here and there...you must read your Bibles every day so you know how God wants His people to live.

Here's a question for you: Are you designing your women's ministry events to include God's Word and are your women getting into their Bibles at those events? I don't mean just at Bible studies ... I mean retreats, conferences, dinners, teas ... whenever they gather. Are they encouraged to take their Bibles to church and look up the Scriptures, even when provided in a power point? Do you take your Bible to church? I'm amazed at how often I go to speak and the women don't bring their Bibles. I joke with them, "Hey, I thought this was a Christian event!"

I don't have
all the answers, your pastor doesn't have all the answers, the speaker doesn't have all the answers: God's Word has EVERY answer. If you're in your Bible EVERY day, God will show you how to mentor from His Word, and more importantly, how to be a role model in a culture forsaking God.

That's how you mentor ...

TALK TO US

Hi Janet,
We will take your suggestion and do a 3-month trial run dress rehearsal first. If possible, my co-leader (Sally) and I would like to start it in September. We are both devouring your materials. I have been reading the
Ministry Coordinator's Guide. I read about 50 pages, and then watch the DVD again. Reading how to do it, and then seeing and hearing you explain each section is helping me see the big picture and how it all fits together.

I must admit, I am nervous, but the more I read and see, the more peace I have that this could work for us. Our big challenge is that about half of our congregation are "snow birds" in Port Charlotte-folks who are only here for the winter. They come in early January and return north in April/May. Am wondering if having a 3 or 4-month program in mid January would be beneficial to reach them.

This is definitely something that can't be rushed and must be thought and prayed through. We have full support for the ministry from our Pastors, but they will want to approve what we have planned beforehand.

I so appreciated how you stressed that for this ministry to function smoothly and be successful, it must be continually bathed in prayer. And I can see it will be a full-time commitment. If we have three or four sessions during the year, we really must be organized and keep our calendars straight, for the different sessions will be overlapping and the meetings at the church will need to fit into the church calendar as well as our personal calendars.

There is a lot that must be thought through, but what a blessing this can be for our ladies-and we know it will honor and please our Lord.

Janet, you are a wonderful instrument in our Lord's hands.   All the work you have done to prepare this instructional DVD Leader Kit is equipping us, and so many others, to obey the Lord and be Titus 2 women. Thank you!

With grateful appreciation,
Mary

Many people seem surprised to learn that there is a National Grandparents Day. This year, it was September 13. It happens every year on the second Sunday in September. You can learn more about this special day in the blog I wrote "Celebrate National Grandparents Day."

There's also a Christian Grandparents Network (CGN), and one of their goals is to get grandparents praying for their grandchildren. Even though we might not all be able to get down on our knees literally, we can all lift our grandchildren up in prayer while sitting in our chair or in our prayer closet.

Many of you know that I have eleven grandchildren, and I pray for them daily out of a book
Praying God's Will for Your Grandchild. I like praying Scripture for them because it keeps me focused on praying biblically, a spiritual habit I write about in Praying for Your Prodigal Daughter.

I would love to hear how you pray for your grandchildren and children.

What prompted you to write "Go Tell It!"?

I wanted to share my story of redemption and how God used my surrendered life to help others.

Whom are you trying to reach with your book, and what do you hope they'll take from reading it?

When I first began writing
Go Tell It! I thought it would be specifically about my spiritual journey and birth of the collective ministries of Initiative 180 and Peace After the Storm. However, I soon realized the importance of sharing your own story (your testimony). That is the Good News. That is how the early church spread the Gospel.

You deal with some tough subjects. When did you stop being afraid of sharing openly, and how did you find the courage to speak out about your experience?

Once I totally surrendered my own secret of abortion and went through a post-abortion recovery Bible study, I experienced the overwhelming warmth and comfort of forgiveness. I no longer carry guilt and regret and shame. Now I am more concerned with that one person who needs to hear what Jesus Christ has done in my life . . . and not the least bit concerned about what the world thinks of me.

Are you planning on writing another book?

Absolutely! I have three in mind . . . but they will have to remain my secret for now!
