Thankful for You!
I thank God for you-the God I serve with a clear conscience . . . . Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.-2 Timothy 1:3 NLT
As we approach Thanksgiving and setting aside a day to give thanks to God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us, my thoughts and praises go out to all of you. You who have supported, encouraged, prayed for, and followed me as I feed His sheep (1 Corinthians 11:1) . . . many of you for the eighteen years I've been About His Work, others just within the last few months.
I know you receive many emails every day, I do too. It takes time to stop and read a newsletter every month, but I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate the many responses I receive.
Many of you have: shared stories in my books, allowed us to feature your Woman to Woman Mentoring Ministry in our newsletter, purchased books from our website store or through other stores, wrote to me how a book helped you, invited me to speak, attended a conference where I was speaking, followed my blog, liked my author Facebook page, and on and on.
I'm continually in awe that God called me into full-time ministry. I didn't see that coming, but it has been an amazing adventure and I have grown and matured in every area of my life. I know I still have much to learn, and every day I feel the Lord stretching me in directions I never dreamed of going.
I am humbled and blessed. Grateful and spirit-filled. Joyous and in the words of Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson, "Happy Happy Happy!"
Thank you for inviting me into your life every month. Some of you I have only recently met, some years ago, others I've never met, but I rejoice in knowing that we will all be together in eternity, and for that I am thankful.
Have a blessed and prayerful Thanksgiving and please don't go shopping! The best "deal" in town is Jesus. Devote this day to praising and glorifying Him and enjoying your family and friends. I know that's what I'll be doing, will you join me?
Happy Thanksgiving!

I LOVE THE BOOK! I love the personal stories and the way it is written. It's a must read for anyone struggling with infertility. It's also has much valuable medical and ethical information relating to the subject. If you're looking for a book on infertility, this is it.-Paula
I KEPT ON SEARCHING for a book and finally typed "infertility" in the search box of a Christian bookstore site. Your book came up and the title really captured my heart. After work, I bought a copy and started to read. Right away I was crying and laughing as I could so relate to stories of many women who shared their journey. I also love your encouragement in journaling. I really want to thank you for being obedient in writing the book, Dear God, Why Can't I Have a Baby?. God really is using it to minister to my broken heart and encourages me to not give up for He is faithful. Thank you for your servant heart!-Mommy-in-waiting, Oxana
I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT AND READ YOUR BOOK, Dear God, Why Can't I Have A Baby?. Walking around Mardels this was the only book that jumped out at me. The stories brought tears to my eyes...I felt the pain. You see, I had a total Hysterectomy & Salpingo-Oophorectomy at the age of 12. I am now 42. So, for 30 years I have suffered greatly. Your book has opened my eyes to more than just being barren or infertile, if you will. I saw that God will carry you through it all whether he opens a womb or not. And though I suffered greatly most of my life, I will be ok.-Sheila Brooks
INFERTILITY IS SUCH AN ISOLATING DISEASE and brings up tons of "why me" questions. I ordered this book at the right time and found huge solace in its words and guidance. Hearing about other women's struggles with infertility made it much less isolating. The Bible passages help guide you through the myriad of emotions that go along with infertility and show that one true constant that God has a wonderful plan for each and every one of us. I laugh and cry through this book and am not able to put it down.-G.B
JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU I BOUGHT YOUR BOOK and I just finished the first chapter. It has been such a blessing for me. My husband and I have been in that same position, and oddly enough, your book goes hand in hand with my current struggles. I love the Sanity Tools, because up to know I felt lost trying to ignore the obvious and just not finding answers. I just did my first journaling and Prayer & Praise Journal... What an amazing book! Anyway, God bless you for allowing Him to use you in such a way. I know talking about this is hard and very painful, but Thank you for making my path less lonely.-Hugs, Raquel
IF YOU HAVE EVER WHISPERED IN PRAYER, "Dear God, why can't I have a baby?" you have found a friend for this emotional detour in Janet Thompson. Her book, aptly titled, Dear God, Why Can't I Have a Baby? is the book I wish I'd had in the 90s during my own struggles to become a mother. Somehow, Thompson covers it all in this book! The heartache and disappointment of course, but also the quiet talks we have with God and the prayers we send up through a shower of tears; the reactions to the advice from those around us, to finding joy despite our circumstances. Thompson even calls the forms and charts in the book's index "Sanity Tools." read more...

Everything you need for starting your Women's Mentoring Ministry
************************************
WOMAN TO WOMAN MENTORING MINISTRY TESTIMONY
Janet,
You rock! I received your mentoring training in Stockton several years ago and have started a mentoring ministry at my church, Fremont Presbyterian in Sacramento CA. I must be honest and say that I have used the foundation of your boxed materials, but have had to "tweek" things for the style of my church. I call the M&M's Marines because they are the few and the brave that hear God's voice to mentor and be mentored. I love your books and the fact that you keep on going! Thank you for being faithful. There is a trickle down effect in all we do and sometimes it's nice to know.

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"
Teachable Moments While watching the DVD "The Search for Santa Paws", my 8-yr-old grandson, Brandon, commented that the woman who was overseeing a foster care home was "not a Christian!" This woman put all the children's toys in an incinerator, wouldn't let them have Christmas decorations, locked them in the basement, and went out frequently leaving the oldest girl in charge. She was portrayed as a mean and irresponsible person and Brandon concluded that anyone who acted like that was not a Christian. I used this illustration later when Brandon and his two sisters weren't displaying "Christian behavior." We talked about the fact that hitting your sibling, throwing tantrums, not obeying Grammie and Grampa, were also not Christian-like behavior. The next morning, 8 yr-old Katelyn woke up with a revelation: "I just figured out what the G stands for in OMG!" She deduced this wasn't something "Christians" should be saying and we talked about taking the Lord's name in vane or using it inappropriately. Then 5 yr-old Sienna said that her little neighbor friend says "OMG" all the time and then she added, "But she doesn't go to church." When I prayed at breakfast that morning, Sienna was upset because I said their names in order of birth, which put her last. So we talked about how the Bible says that in heaven the first will be last and the last will be first, and we discussed the meaning of "humility". I did promise I would try to mix the names up next time though, LOL! From my book Praying For Your Prodigal Daughter, I receive many emails from moms whose daughters were raised in a "Christian home" but later went astray. It's so important for our grandchildren and children to personalize into their own lives what it means to be a Christian. An excellent, and convicting, article I suggest reading is "How To Raise a Pagan Kid in a Christian Home." Another article my husband Dave came across, "Are You Raising Entitled Kids?" My young grandchildren have a sense of what is appropriate behavior for a Christian. Now their parents and grandparents job is to reinforce what that looks like in the kids' behavior and actions. I would love to hear some of your teachable moments.

Meet An Author
Partly Cloudy with Scattered Worries: Finding Peace in All Kinds of Weather
Interview with the award-winning author and my friend, Kathy Collard Miller:
What is your book about?
My book helps women, in particular, to trust God more and thus worry less. It is filled with stories from my own life and the lives of others who learned how to do that very thing, along with Biblical principles and practical instruction. But that's not all! (Oh sorry, wrong commercial). I've also included Discussion Questions that a group or an individual can use. Plus, every chapter highlights a woman from the Bible who either struggled with worry or one who overcame her worry. And as if that's not enough, (this is sounding like a commercial), I've closed every chapter with a "Letter From God" which speaks to the reader about what she learned in the chapter.
Why do you think people worry?
Of course, there are many reasons but here are a few. We may have experienced some hurtful things in childhood and blamed God. So our hearts are fearful of turning control over to Him. We may think that worry gives us power in another person's life. I remember worrying when my teenaged son had to fly across country by himself to a Christian golf camp. I worried he would miss his connecting flight until God whispered, "You're worried because you want him to need you. Let him need Me." Oh, how revealing. I could then release that worry and let God show Himself strong. Additionally, people worry because they really do think worry does some good. One woman told me, "Well, of course, worry works; after all, what I worry about doesn't happen." I'm sure she was joking (I think!), but in our hearts, we can think it does some good. Unfortunately, worry only makes us tense and then we react in ways we regret. Plus, God isn't honored.
Why did you write Partly Cloudy with Scattered Worries?
God was working and tranforming me to trust Him more and I wanted to share what I had learned. My desire is to help readers trust God more by being convinced of His greatness, sovereignty, power, love, and involvement. We can say we trust God but then we give in to anxiety, People Pleasing, controlling others, regrets, fear, and trying to provide for ourselves when God says to wait on Him. Our responses actually reveal that we don't trust God as much as we think we do.
What is your ultimate desire for your ministry?
I've been in ministry for a long time-my first article was published in 1978 and my first book in 1984. Hard to believe since I'm not that old! But in all these years, I've been motivated to minister in such a way that women see God in truth and then take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). Much of our worry is because we believe lies about God and we allow any thought to permeate our minds as truth. Although I'm learning like everyone else to trust God more and more, I desire to help every woman know she can believe God wants the very best for her and then want His glory.
Are you available for speaking, especially on this topic of overcoming worry?
Oh yes, I love to speak on lots of topics, including overcoming worry. I especially love speaking at women's retreats because I can have extended contact with the women. Email Kathy.
