NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
October ushers in fall with thoughts of pumpkin pie and harvest colors, but for many women, like myself, it's also a reminder that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please ladies, get your mammograms. I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2002, with recurrences in 2008 and 201l--each time discovered by digital mammography.
I found purpose in the pain of my first diagnosis by writing the book I wished I had going through my own journey, Dear God, They Say It's Cancer: A Companion Guide for Women on the Breast Cancer Journey. The hardest chapter to write was "It Could Come Back." But come back it has twice, and any fears I had that my friends and family couldn't, or wouldn't, go through this ordeal with me again, were unfounded as they rallied around each time with love, caring support, and most importantly, prayer.
I have suggestions for how you can do the same for the breast cancer friend or family member or neighbor, or fellow employee, or acquaintance you barely know. Because with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed with breast cancer . . . you know a woman who has cried out in anguish, "Dear God, They Say It's Cancer!" Learn how you can Help Your Friend With Breast Cancer Make It Through the Bad Days and Enjoy The Good Days . . .
This month, along with fall colors, you'll also see pink splashed across newspapers, blog sites, magazines, kitchen appliances, cars, mayonnaise jars . . . as marketers and opportunists try to take advantage of our sympathy and desire to help donate to finding a cure for breast cancer. But beware everything colored pink is not black and white. I have some tips on helping you determine a legitimate pink investment versus pink opportunist: Think Pink, But Be Wise.
About His Work Ministries is dedicated to sharing ministry not making money: service not solicitation. For the remainder of October, we will be offering Dear God, They Say It's Cancer: A Companion Guide for Women on the Breast Cancer Journey at a reduced price so that I can mentor and come alongside more of my breast cancer sisters.
Pray for a cure!

Everything you need for starting your Women's Mentoring Ministry
************************************
Let's Get Connected!
I am often asked by churches starting Woman to Woman Mentoring if there is a church in their area doing the mentoring ministry that could mentor them as they get started. Or women ask if there is a church in their area with Woman to Woman Mentoring. We would be willing to comprise a list of churches with Woman to Woman Mentoring if you would send us your church name, location, and contact information-phone, email, contact person. We would keep this list for our own use in helping other churches and potential M&M's find you.

Two About His Work

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"
Many of our grandchildren live far away in different states, so we're always looking for ways to stay connected with them. When I got my new "smart phone" last year, our son put the Words with Friends AP on my phone. He and I started playing, and then, my daughter wanted to play, and soon the grandkids got excited about playing it on their parent's phones.
Granddaughter, Ari, has a phone with limited internet access and she uses it for playing Words with Friends with Grammie. I love it when I see a new word come in from her, or we can even "chat" free via the game. Even though she lives in Illinois and I'm in Idaho, the miles disappear as we send words back and forth.

Meet An Author
Interview about Not My Will: Finding Peace with Things You Can't Change by Brenda Poinsett, a fellow New Hope Publisher Author
The title of your book is Not My Will: Finding Peace with Things You Can't Change. That's kind of an odd title for a Christian book, isn't it? Aren't all things changeable?
Many of us tend to think that all things are changeable. You might say we are eternal optimists, but if we are honest, some of us do come up against things we can't change but wish we could. We wrestle against these things. In the book I describe it as feeling like we're in the grip of a vise, and it's squeezing the life out of us.
My breast cancer sisters and I know we can't change having breast cancer. What are some other things that can't be changed?
Here are some I mention in Not My Will.
Accidents. Without warning, you suddenly experience a serious auto accident, a natural disaster, or a violent act of crime. After the fact, these events cannot be changed.
Terminal illness. Some people might want to argue with this designation as something unchangeable. After all, "Miracles are always possible," but for many the miracles will not come, and their lives will be completely altered by the diagnosis.
Job termination. A person fired from his job may be able to change his future, but he can't change his past. He may long to push the replay button on life's recorder, but the tape of life cannot be rewound.
God's will. The kind of life God wants us to live (His standards for holiness) will not change. If we want to please God, we will live His way and not our way.
Personal limitations. At times, we wish we can change something about ourselves such as our intellect or our genes or a handicap. Some things are changeable, but there's a limit to what we may be able to change about ourselves.
Aging. Face-lifts, hair-dying, and weight-watching may camouflage the aging process. Exercise, nutrition, and hormone-replacement may slow it down, but aging is inevitable. We will all get old.
Death. The best nutrition and exercise program available may add two to seven years to life, but it will not change the fact of Hebrews 9:27: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die."
Have you dealt with things you can't change? Is the material you present in your book authentic or theoretical?
Several of the above "unchangeables" I've had to deal with. It was in being in an unchangeable situation and not knowing how to pray about it that connected me with Jesus and His unchangeable.
Jesus had an unchangeable? That's hard to believe. Couldn't Jesus change anything?
Jesus was on his way to the cross. His destiny was to be the suffering Messiah. No amount of praying would change that. His dying on the cross was a voluntary act; but, in another sense, it wasn't. If he wanted to be the obedient Son, there was only one way before him. His destiny was an unchangeable certainty.
Jesus said, "He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life" (John 8:12b). When we walk with Him, He will light up our path, show us how to cope, and restore our hope. He'll help us make peace with what we can't change.
For a chance to win a free copy of Not My Will: Finding Peace With Things You Can't Change send us your comment and we'll have a drawing this Friday.
Congratulations to Penelope Carlevato, last month's winner of Anita Higman's book, Winter in Full Bloom.
