MOTORCYCLES EVERYWHERE!
The above heading was on overhead highway signs, texted to my friends and family, and posted on my Facebook page while hubby and I toured the Black Hills of South Dakota during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Our trip was full of God-incidences, such as sitting next to bikers from Switzerland while eating our first Buffalo Burgers. Then there was our Bed and Breakfast host starting each day with, "Good Morning, Lord!" I share this amazing story in a blog post along with pictures from our trip.
On our way to South Dakota, we had a wonderful visit with grandkids in Colorado, and Dave and I experienced Blackeyed Peas Restaurant with our incredible web designer, Holly Smith, and her godly husband, Chris.

We had so much to catch up on that we actually closed down the restaurant!
I also enjoyed lunch with a family friend from California, Kathy, who was in the area. Kathy, the mother of two young children, is going through a difficult divorce. On my Monday Morning Blog, "Mentor From Your Mess," Kathy shares from her own experiences how to help and mentor women in crisis. Sadly, we all know someone going through what Kathy describes, and who better to tell us how we can help these women, than a woman going through it herself. A woman mentoring through her own mess . . .
That's mentoring: Sharing Life's Experiences and God's Faithfulness.

Everything you need for starting your Women's Mentoring Ministry

Let's Get Connected!
I am often asked by churches starting Woman to Woman Mentoring if there is a church in their area doing the mentoring ministry that could mentor them as they get started. Or women ask if there is a church in their area with Woman to Woman Mentoring. We would be willing to comprise a list of churches with Woman to Woman Mentoring if you would send us your church name, location, and contact information-phone, email, contact person. We would keep this list for our own use in helping other churches and potential M&M's find you.

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"
Many of you have written that Grammie's Corner is your favorite section of the newsletter. I love sharing stories about my 11 grandchildren, but I love even more praying for each of them every morning. I see God visibly at work in each of their lives.
My friend and fellow author, Lillian Penner, is the National Prayer Coordinator for The Christian Grandparenting Network. This group is asking grandparents all over the world to unite in prayer for their grandchildren on Sunday, September 8, 2013, the official United States National Grandparents Day designated by a Senate proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.
Our grandchildren are living in a desperate moral and spiritual climate navigating in a world hostile to truth. Satan has launched an aggressive attack on our families, schools and our nation to desensitize our children to truth and righteousness. Perhaps at no other time in our history is a call to prayer more urgently required than it is today for our grandchildren.
Won't you join me and thousands of grandparents around the world in praying God's will for our grandchildren.
Read more about this significant call to prayer.

Mentoring Moment
"...Virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone that renders us invincible. These are the tactics we should study. If we lose these, we are conquered, fallen indeed...so long as our manners and principles remain sound, there is no danger." -- Patrick Henry

Meet An Author
Interview about Getting Out of Bed In The Morning: Reflections of Comfort in Heartache by Alice J. Wisler
You have a heartbreaking experience with grief; could you talk a little bit about that?
My son Daniel died after cancer treatments in 1997. He was three when he was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his neck. He was four when he died in my arms after a staph infection entered his compromised body. The day was Groundhog Day, so every year when the little rascal is looking for his shadow to predict the onset of spring, I am remembering my little rascal-a beautiful blond-haired boy who loved his mama and had a great sense of humor.
What is one of the greatest hurdles when it comes to dealing with grief?
I think we are surprised at how long grief takes (how long the journey through it is) and what an impact grief has on each and every aspect of our lives. The loss of Daniel challenged my faith, my beliefs-my very core.
How does service to others help with grief?
Doing for others means getting out of yourself, so to speak, and letting others enter your life. You begin to see that others have sorrow, too. Others are hurt and need understanding. By helping to meet the needs of others, you help yourself (a remarkable truth from God's economy).
What do those in deep loss need from others?
Those suffering a loss want to be acknowledged. It does no good to shove the loss and pain from it aside; grievers need to be able to talk about what they are experiencing. It's so important to have a community surround them with hope and love.
What is the main takeaway of your new devotional, Getting Out of Bed in the Morning?
Life is tough and grief is real. Being human isn't easy. God provides for us as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, sustaining us so that we can carry on. He is full of compassion, love, forgiveness, mercy and grace.
You have a lot of writing exercises in your book. How important is writing through heartache?
If you ask me, it is vital! Writing saved me. When Daniel died, I needed to pour my pain onto paper and have my journal share in holding it. I wrote all the time. Now I teach online writing courses (Writing the Heartache) and speak at conferences on the value and benefits of putting pen to paper. Writing is inexpensive therapy, a great gift from God. I hope you'll visit my website to learn more about my workshops.
In addition to this devotional, what else have you written?
I have five novels published by Bethany House and River North/Moody and three self-published memorial cookbooks that I have written. My novels Rain Song (Christy Finalist), How Sweet It Is (Christy Finalist), Hatteras Girl, A Wedding Invitation and Still Life in Shadows all take place in the South. Even though I was born and raised in Japan, now that I live in North Carolina, I have learned the beauty of sweet tea and grits.
