   MARCH MINISTRY MADNESS

I don't know about you, but it's hard for me to believe that the first quarter of 2013 is just about over! I love spring, and it's exciting to watch the snow melt and shoots start sprouting in our yard as we anticipate planting our garden and all the wonderful produce we were blessed with last year.

But what is even more amazing to me is the amount of ministry that has taken place so far this year and all that is to come in the following months. It seems the more you say "Yes" to God, the more He uses you. Have you noticed that too?

I mentioned in previous newsletters that I am now on The M.O.M. Initiative team. March 15-18, thirteen of us on the team met together for a planning retreat in Winter Park, Colorado. Previous to this retreat, most of us had never met and had been ministering together virtually through Facebook, The M.O.M. Initiative website, and email. We knew each other by our FB pictures and the posts that flew back and forth as we served together, but now we were together face-to-face in the same place.

Within minutes, it was as if we had known each other for years. In the family of God you never meet a stranger. There's a common thread that binds us together with the same heart and spirit for loving people and serving God.

It was a unique experience for all of us as we played, prayed, pranked, prayed some more, planned, posed for and took pictures, praised, participated in preparing and eating great meals, and often paused to enjoy the winter wonderland outside and the warmth and love inside. Does it sound like a little bit of heaven? I think it was...

If you're not experiencing this kind of camaraderie in serving in ministry, I understand. I've been there too where humanness and self-centeredness eclipse the synergy of serving. I can give you an antidote that always works when everyone is committed to it: get on your knees together and pray for unity.

Lord, I pray for every woman who is reading this newsletter. Give her a heart to serve You and a like-mindedness with those in the community of believers. Impress on her the ways you would have her use her gifts and talents for Your glory. And let her experience joy and peace in the family of God. Amen.

Janet, thank you for writing, Dear God, He's Home! A friend and I are reading it at the same time, seeing ourselves and our husbands all over the place in the book. I love it too! I interviewed my mom and sent her responses to Janet, and some of my mom's stories appear in the book. So fun. (But even without that personal connection, it would be a fantastic book!) - Jocelyn Green faithdeployed.com; jocelyngreen.com; facebook.com/faithdeployed

  Grammies "GRAMMIE'S CORNER"

 ***************************************************************

Of our eleven grandchildren, only three live near us so I am continually trying to find ways to stay connected with all of them. I've learned that if I'm going to stay relevant in their lives, I need to stay current with what's happening in their lives and the "devices" they use to communicate.

SKYPE is now on phones and computers so we can have face-to-face conversations when planned, or read to the little ones. Even play games. Some kids love it; others won't stay in front of the screen for long.

With the older ones, I email and play "Words with Friends" on my phone. They will use mommy or daddy's phone or on their I-pod or Kindle. It's great fun, and even my 8 year-old grandson plays! It helps all our vocabularies!

The most important thing I do for each grandchild is pray every morning while looking into pictures of their sweet faces. I know God is honoring those prayers and watching over my grandchildren when I am not near.

What are some ways you stay in touch with long-distance grandkids? I need all the ideas I can get.

When God Answers Your Prayers, Inspiring Stories of How God Comes Through in the Nick of Time.

Interview with the author, Karen O'Connor below:

What prompted you to write this book on how God answers prayer in the nick of time?

I noticed in a couple of situations in my life, I was desperate for God to answer my prayer but it seemed to be taking so long. For example, we purchased a new house but the one we were living in didn't sell and didn't sell. I became frantic, worrying we'd be saddled with two mortgages. But then at the perfect moment--in the nick of time--the buyer came along and I realized that sometimes answers are delayed because there are other people and circumstances that play a part in answering my prayer. It was a very humbling experience. I spoke with other people about 'nick of time' answers to prayer in their lives and realized I could write a book on this subject that would encourage people to hang in there with God. He does come through.

You included Bible stories too, of how God answered prayers in the nick of time for Hannah and David and Simeon and others. It's encouraging to realize that God has taken care of his people down through the generations.

Yes, I wanted my readers to see that God answers prayer--often in the nick of time--because he sees the big picture and all the details that have to play out before the final answer. I drew strength from these Bible stories and hope my readers will too.

Has writing this book changed the way you pray?

Definitely. I'm not as self-centered in my prayers as I once was. I'm more able to present my request to God with humility and submission, trusting that his answer will come at the perfect time and in the perfect way for the good of all concerned.

For a chance to win a copy of Karen's book When God Answers Your Prayers, tell us how God came through in the nick of time for you.
