About His Work with Janet February 2013
|
It takes a long time for a book to go from the author's mind to the reader's hands. I know it seems like you've heard me talking forever about Dear God, He's Home! A Woman's Guide to Her Stay-at-Home Man. It seems like that to me too! But March 5, 2013 the talking about "it's coming soon" ends and the talking about "it's here now" begins!
I'm so excited about this book because I think it's safe to say that you know a woman, or you are a woman, with a stay-at-home man. And trust me, I can tell you from experience that's a huge adjustment and transition. It doesn't matter what brought him home . . .illness, disability, out of work, home office, retirement, return from military deployment . . .whatever the reason, life will never be the same again. Except for military deployment, my husband, Dave, and I have experienced every one of those "he's home now scenarios", and my husband has graciously allowed me to share a "raw" look at the difficulties, adjustments, and blessings.
Many other wives also share their stories in a way that gives the reader hope and encouragement that her marriage will not only survive, but thrive. Here's what Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott say about the book: "Janet Thompson's passionate faith, schooled wisdom, and practical applications make her message one for every woman who wants to live an abundant life in Christ." The Third Drum Roll Please....
1st annual R.P. SW Idaho Christian Women's Leadership Training Conference
I'll be doing Mentoring/Teambuilding training right here in Boise. Registration is open (Scroll down to #2 on the events page). This training is being held at a lovely hotel and your registration fee includes room and meals. Why not bring your whole team and have a combined training/retreat. In The Team That Jesus Built, I recommend you take your team away for an annual retreat, and this would be a perfect opportunity to do just that.

FEATURED WOMAN TO WOMAN MENTORING MINISTRY TESTIMONY
Dear Janet, Warsaw Community Church's Women's Ministries started a mentoring ministry in 2007 after acknowledging the need to help women grow in their walk with Christ. The women in the above photo were part of the initial team that reviewed materials to use for a formal mentoring program, and we all continue to serve on the steering team (there are 12 total on the team).
We chose Woman to Woman Mentoring for its biblical base and thorough attention to detail for organizing a ministry team, for starting a mentoring program, and for developing mentors and mentees. Having just entered the sixth year of the program, WCC Women's Ministries has seen countless women benefit from mentoring. Not only has our team grown in our walk with Christ; God is blessing with fruit resulting from the ministry.
There is continued interest in the program mainly due to word of mouth by those who participate, and we are now seeing former mentees take on the responsibility of being mentors. God has truly blessed and challenged us through mentoring. Thank you Janet, for developing materials that are accessible and effective for ministry!"
In addition since last spring, I've been helping to re-launch a women's ministries program at my work in the Student Affairs Dept. at Grace College in Winona Lake. This fall, Grace College re-launched a mentoring program they had in place several years ago. We decided to not use formal materials, but to tweak what they had been using previously. There are over 80 women involved - wow!
All that to say, God has greatly used your materials to grow and challenge me as a leader, especially as of late in working with the college women's ministries area. I am seeing how He is moving me forward continually to minister to women. Thank you for being faithful in using your gifts to encourage people like me!

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"
***************************************************************
He Runs the Race
I'm so proud of our oldest grandson, Caleb, who has faithfully perfected his running skills to be on the high school track team, as a freshman. He can be seen early in the freezing winter mornings, when many kids are still tucked into their warm beds, running around his neighborhood before school. That takes discipline and tenacity: two traits that will serve him well in his future.
It seems only weeks ago I held him in my arms, so excited to be a Grammie for the first time. He has grown into a godly teenager, who loves his family and the Lord. He's a great role model for his siblings and cousins, and I'm so proud to be his Grammie, as I am for all of our 11 amazing grandkids.
I'd like to recommend a book I pray from every morning for all eleven of them, Praying God's Will for My Grandchild by Lee Roberts. I pray for all 11 of them and have their pictures inside the book. You can do the same for your children-they all need our prayer support today.

Meet An Author
God Is My Refuge: 12 Weeks of Devotions and Scripture Memory for Troubled Times
Interview with the author, Kathy Howard below:
How can this devotional book help and encourage Christian women?
Christian women are not immune to trials and difficulties. In fact, Jesus clearly warned His followers that we will have trouble. We live in a fallen world and the effects touch everyone. However, believers have a safe place to go in the midst of trouble. Our God invites us to take refuge in Him. He is our "refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble."
Most Christians believe God can help, but many don't know where to go in the Bible to find the comfort, peace, and guidance He longs to give. God Is My Refuge provides the direction Christian women need to discover, understand, and apply the "ever-present help" only God can give.
What makes God Is My Refuge different from most other devotionals?
God Is My Refuge is more of a purposeful quite time guide. The overall intent for the book is to help women discover the help God offers in times of difficulty. Each day's devotion includes the following components:
- Scripture reading of 5 to 8 verses
- Brief illustration and commentary on the verses
- Three questions for personal reflection and application
- Prayer prompt
- Memory Minute
Each of the 12 weeks focuses on a specific area of trouble like financial need, illness, broken relationships, grief, or fear. Each week highlights a verse that the reader is encouraged to memorize to internalize God's truth. The daily "Memory Minute" gives quick, practical steps to facilitate memorization.
Tell us about how God used this book in your life while you were writing it.
Not long after I began working on this devotional our family entered a time of crisis. God used every moment I spent searching His Word and studying His promises to minister to me in my time of trouble. I needed what I was preparing for others. He comforted me with His Words of love. He filled me with the peace that can only come from Him. He strengthened me with the presence of His Spirit. God has truly been my refuge and ever-present help.
This devotional includes a Scripture memory component. Why is this important?
Memorizing God's Word solidly entrenches it in your heart and mind. When you internalize His truth like this, God can use it to minister to you in powerful and personal ways:
- Provide you with comfort, encouragement, peace, and strength (Col 3:15-16; Ps 1:1-3)
- Give you guidance and wisdom (Ps 37:31; Ps 119:24, 98, 105)
- Foster your spiritual growth (2 Tim 3:16-17; Heb 4:12; 1 Pet 2:2)
- Prepare you to share your faith with others (1 Pet 3:15; Acts 18:28)
- Fill you with joy and pour out His blessings (Ps 119:24, 47, 103; James 1:21-25)
Memorizing Scripture overwhelms many Christians. How does God Is My Refuge help readers overcome this?
Memorizing Scripture is often overwhelming because we are looking at the "big chunk." We see the end - having a verse or section memorized - and think "there's no way I can do that!" You've heard the old saying about how to eat an elephant? The answer is "one bite at a time!" The same is true with memorizing Scripture. This devotional gives readers small, daily, doable steps to help them succeed. One bite at a time, until the verse is memorized! We also review all the verses throughout the course of the devotional to help them stick.
What is the main takeaway of God Is My Refuge?
Christians will have trouble in this world, but God is there is help us in the midst of it. He will not leave us to stumble around on our own. He has the desire and power to help us. We just have to turn to Him. This devotional helps us do just that!
