CELEBRATING VOLUNTEERS
United Way of Broward County is extremely grateful for the time invested by our volunteers. Because of them, we are able to do so much more. These inspiring volunteers are always seeking to make Broward County a better place and deserve a special "thank you" for all of their hard work. Please join us in honoring our local volunteers and consider being a part of the movement. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future and "Unite Broward".

"There are days that I feel that I am not really reaching my

first grader. He cannot sit still and repetition of words, cards, etc. does not seem to have an impact. I, of course, hang in

there because I have hope that it will all connect by the end of the school year. Recently, I gave Curtis a notebook. While we were setting up next week's book, he was writing in this little book. Then he showed me what he wrote....It said, 'I love ReadingPals.' Well that just made it all worth the effort I put into this wonderful program!"

Volunteers Needed for Fort Lauderdale Air Show
United Way of Broward County's MISSION UNITED is the beneficiary of the Fort Lauderdale Air Show and we are looking for volunteers! Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 to assist with parking at the Galleria Mall and Birch State Park. Volunteers must be over the age of 16 and will receive one free ticket for
the day you are NOT volunteering, a free t-shirt and

free lunch on the volunteer day.

Give the Gift of Reading
It only takes one hour a week to make a lasting difference in a child through ReadingPals. United Way engages, trains and deploys volunteer "reading pals" who dedicate one hour a week for 25 weeks to read to a child. We are already seeking volunteers for the 2016-17 school year. Trainings will begin in early summer.

Alternative Spring Break Leads Teens to Give Back

More than 150 middle and high school students spent their spring break giving back as part of the Broward Youth Coalition's Alternative Spring Break. Daily activities included a beach clean up, feeding the homeless and working with the elderly in an Adopt a Grandparent event. The annual event gives local students a rewarding and meaningful spring break experience filled with volunteerism.
