FINANCIAL STABILITY
Financial stability and independence are top priorities for working individuals and families. The Financial Stability edition of the monthly e-newsletter shows how United Way is moving Broward residents closer to financial stability and ultimately create a stronger and more prosperous community.
Free Tax Preparation Available     
Taxes do not have to be scary or expensive since United Way of Broward County, in partnership with Hispanic Unity, is giving local families a helping hand by providing free tax preparation services. Anyone who makes less than $62,000 annually is eligible for free online tax preparation. Households making less than $54,000 can also find sites across Broward and the country were IRS certified preparers can safely do your taxes. United Way's Mobile Resource Center will also be visiting locations across Broward County through April 15 to reach areas without permanent tax sites. 
 
 
Updates on the ALICE Report   
In just over one year, the United Way ALICE Report has changed how many people are talking about those who work hard but struggle. United Way of Broward County is developing and identifying solutions for businesses, local government, non-profits and even the state. As the local leader of the national Assets and Opportunity Network we are happy to share the 2016 Assets and Opportunity Scorecard With updates on how Florida stacks up in issues of education, financial stability and health there are some challenging findings but we welcome your support and feedback. 
 
Public Policy Updates: Advocating

for Working Floridians
United Ways in Florida are seeking $1.2 million in appropriations from the Florida Legislature to expand free tax preparation sites with local United Ways across the State.  Rep. George Moraitis of Broward County is sponsoring our appropriations request in the House. United Way of Broward County is also working with our community partners to advocate for a dedicated local funding source for Broward's affordable workforce housing needs.
