Justin Rose Wins, Wins, and Wins Again!

It had all the makings of a true storybook tale. Cast of characters: A brave young double amputee wounded warrior, a generous philanthropic "caddy," and one of the world's top players, the reigning 2013 U.S. Open Champion, Justin Rose.

The 'cast' met a few weeks ago at the Quicken Loans National at Congressional to "caddy for a cure" and spoiler alert - all three were big winners. Justin won the tournament; philanthropist Steve Allen had the best golf day of his life and Lt. Jason Pak saw an abundance of people and organizations in professional golf that appreciate his service given to our country.

Justin Rose has been a longtime supporter of the Caddy For A Cure program and is a willing participant each time he is asked to Caddy For A Cure. After winning the Quicken Loans National and becoming the 23rd professional to win the week of, the week before or after they "caddy for a cure," Justin may well sign up every week as he became #24 the next week with a win at the Scottish Open!

As an avid golfer, Steve Allen was introduced to Caddy For A Cure through his club in South Florida. After learning more about the program and being a strong American patriot, Allen decided to give it a go with Rose at Congressional. Although he envisioned himself more as a player than a caddy, Allen's experience could not have changed his opinion more about how to enjoy and see the game at its highest level. But possibly more importantly, Allen saw the impact Caddy For A Cure has on its wounded military participants and was thrilled to be able to make it happen for Lt. Pak.

Lt. Pak was injured by an IED in December of 2012 and lost both of his legs and several fingers on his left hand. In an incredibly inspirational story, Pak put on his ARMY determination and set the goal to WALK at his father's 30-year ARMY career retirement just two short months after his injury. The doctors cautioned Lt. Pak there was no way that in just two months after this incident he could possibly expect to walk on prosthetics. Jason told them to simply get the legs ready as he was going to do it. Do it he did. He relearned how to balance himself to WALK, on open wounds, at his father's service. Incredible.

Lt. Pak took to the fairways of Congressional and escorted Justin around the 18 holes. While he marveled at Justin's ball striking and massive skills, it was Justin who was more in awe of Jason as he learned about the dedication and courage of this young man.

Caddy For A Cure has been providing these experiences for the wounded for over 7 years and has been able to positively effect the lives of many of our wounded through the great game of golf. We are proud to honor our brave warriors and continue to find new ways to help find 'cures' in the world of golf.

Save the DATE! December 8th - Parkland Golf Club

We don't really need to say a whole lot about this event, our 8th Annual. If you follow us, and have been here for one of our events, we try pretty hard to make this a very wonderful experience.  We like to think we "have it all" in this one day event - our impetus Fanconi anemia, our passion for the wounded, active duty military, and possibly some celebrities from other sports and even some from...GOLF!

This will be a day that you will not forget, and it's a chance to see the Caddy For A Cure passion "in action." The Parkland Golf Club is a majestic setting for this event in sunny and warm South Florida, and with their recently redone Tif Dwarf putting green surfaces, it does not get much better than this.

Jason Bohn Rocks It Again At John Deere Classic!

These weren't your average caddy's.  These were probably the most special caddy's possibly ever on the course of a professional event. They were all from Tudi's Tribe, and they were all recovering from some form of life threatening illness.  For the fourth year in a row, Jason Bohn stepped up and did the honors, and what a job he did again!

Gerry and Sue Malzahn, familiar names to those who have been following us for the 12 years we have been "caddy'ing for a cure," set the record in our program for "Most Loops Recorded" with their SIXTH time carrying.  They caddy'd earlier this year for Hunter Mahan and said there was no way they would miss Moline and the magic that happens there with Tudi's Tribe.

Most of these kids really don't know all that much about golf. In fact, they don't even know who a lot of the best players in the world are. But they sure know who Jason Bohn is and what a wonderful man he is, plus, he is a pretty good golfer, as well!

Hole after hole, a Tudi's Tribe patient went inside the ropes to "escort" our caddy and player, and each was greeted by Jason as though they were the President of the United States. Incredibly special, indeed!

And then there's that putter...oh, that putter. It has the names of the children who have been lost to the ravages of their disease,  and sadly, a new name was added this year.  A mother of one of the children lost stepped in to "caddy" on the 18th hole and Jason used the putter, making yet another long putt.  Calling all angels, we hear you and see how you guide that ball into the hole with that putter every year.

Many thanks to Clair Peterson and the entire John Deere Classic staff. They do one of the finest events in all of golf every year and we are so pleased and humbled to be able to do this for the children in Tudi's Tribe. A SPECIAL thanks to Jason Bohn!! What a guy!

I have had the chance to meet and shake hands with a lot of very special men and women who raised their right hand, committing to protect and serve all of US in this great country. They went and put themselves in harms way, coming back hurt beyond measure. But in July, I met a young man who completely blew me away. Lt. Jason Pak, Army Ranger.

We can talk all day about what he did when he was recovering from his injury, and as stated above "walked" at his Dad's retirement ceremony two months after losing his own legs, but what is indescribable is Jason's attitude about life.

If and when you get the chance to meet Jason, the experience is impactful, to say the least, with his situation. You would never know in a million years that this young man has ANYTHING but the brightest of futures and is going to be an immensely successful person.  After 37 seconds with him and your first hand shake you recognize this is one special guy.

He epitomizes the "dream" we had so many years ago when we thought it would be cool to bring these brave warriors inside the ropes to spend a day with one of the world's best players.  While we had a vision, we had no idea the impact that we could possibly have on so many with this great game we all love and enjoy.

And yet, after all Jason has been through, we caught him "raising his right hand" yet again wishing those serving overseas the very best and Godspeed to come home.

Yes, Lt. Jason Pak is a hero in the highest order!
