Rory McIlroy  "Caddy's for a Cure"

We waited a long time to have Rory participate with Caddy For A Cure, and with the day we had with him at The Barclays, it was worth every second of the wait.  It does not take a rocket scientist to know that this young man can play, but one would need to spend a quality day with him to really appreciate what a terrific man he is!

Our two "caddy's" had exactly that rare opportunity. Dave and son David Huber had the day of their life with the U.S. Open and PGA Champion and his great 'real' caddy, JP Fitzgerald. The Huber's walked around the Liberty National gem of a track looking at lower Manhattan while enjoying the skills of one of the best players in the world.

Rory was engaging, funny, and extremely personable, much like our other Irish friends to the program, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington. We had to sit back and say, "We clearly should bottle and sell the Irish water these guys grow up drinking." But of course, the answer to that thought is probably something that's already sold in a pint!

Being family-oriented people and having had the greatest relationship with a father one could ever hope for, we are personally thrilled when we get to facilitate father-son tandem teams. Watching the Huber team carry and enjoy this experience was something we will never forget - and we know they won't, either.

Good job r gcairde. Coimed suas leis an obair iontach agus go raibh maith agat!

Irish for "Good job our friends. Keep up the great work and thanks!

Liberty Mutual Invitational Approaching Fast

Have you signed up for the 2013 Liberty Mutual Invitational benefiting Caddy For A Cure? The Monday, December 9th event is quickly approaching and playing spots are nearing capacity. As one of the premier one-day events in the country, this year's tournament will be held at the beautiful Parkland Golf Club. It will be another day of golf, fun and charitable purpose you won't want to miss.

As part of the day's activities, Caddy For A Cure has partnered with American Fallen Soldier to recognize and honor Army Sgt. Thomas Bohall. Infantryman Bohall, who joined the Army in 2005 was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY in 2008. Along with five other soldiers in his unit, Bohall died May 26, 2011 in Spin Boldak, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Bohall had earned several decorations and awards and served in missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sgt. Bohall's survivors include his wife Jessica, and daughter Annabelle, both of Essington, PA, as well as his parents Tim and Marla Bohall, and Lorna Geist of Bel Aire, KS.

In addition to being the capstone fundraising event for Caddy For A Cure, the golf tournament is one of the final events of the year in the Liberty Mutual Invitational amateur tournament series where participants can qualify for a spot in the national finals. The Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational national finals will be held in the spring at Pinehurst, site of the 2014 U.S. Open.

As a bit of a 'you don't want to miss this' alert for you, because of our involvement with professional golf, we have some INCREDIBLE and RARE auction items for the event. Sean Foley, coach to Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, Lee Westwood, and many other TOUR superstars has donated a Private 2 Hour Lesson with him. Wow. Our good friends from Callaway Golf have given us a bag which is one of five in the world signed by Arnie, Gary, Ernie, Phil, and Annika. You know when you only need to mention the first name, these players have done something significant in the sport!

See you in Parkland, Florida December 9th!

LPGA Safeway Classic A Huge Success!

Ah yes, the ladies.  We've heard their phrase "LPGA Girls ROCK" and we would be the first ones to testify and give an "AMEN " shout out on this one. We participated with the LPGA recently at the Safeway Classic Presented by Coca Cola in Portland, Oregon. What a week, what a time, what a blast!

Our great friends and sponsors from Portland, Emerick Construction, are celebrating an amazing 70 years in business this year. As part of this remarkable 70th anniversary, Emerick wanted to be a big part of our involvement at the Safeway Classic in their hometown. Did we say a big part? Customary to how they do everything, Emerick Construction hit this one out of the park. They decided it was a perfect opportunity to 'gift' some of their valued clients and associates with a day inside the ropes of the LPGA. These experiences caddying for one of the world's best players created memories for their associates that will last a lifetime.

With superstars like Solheim Cup players Morgan Pressel and Lexi Thompson, along with standouts Sydnee Michaels and Paige Mackenzie, how could you go wrong by sending out a friend to caddy for one of them? Of course, the girls did not disappoint and everything was absolutely perfect for an unforgettable day.

It is our strong opinion that we will all be talking about Lexi Thompson in a few years as one of the greatest in the world. She really has that much talent. And, much like Rory in the story above, this is a young lady well beyond her years in maturity with a heart the size of Oregon. She comes from a family of class and warmth who have unarguably done a great job with their daughter. Oregon Golf Club PGA Professional Bob Turnquist and his daughter Brady agree 100% as they were the lucky ones to spend the day with this superstar.

At the end of one of these great days, we are often left with a thought that this was the greatest day Caddy For A Cure has ever experienced...and then, a day like this comes along with a plethora of great people and fun...and we wonder how it can be topped.

A truly heartfelt thanks to Emerick Construction for their relentless generosity and savvy in giving the gifts of caddying to their business friends. Of course it couldn't happen without the participation of the LPGA stars who made this possible and for our caddy's who carried the bag for the day. Thank YOU!

Greetings!

Many may wonder why all the attraction from Caddy For A Cure to the military wounded? Isn't "the Cure" a cure for something like cancer or Fanconi anemia? Yes, and no, really. When we look at the purest definition of what the caddy does and what a cure is, the caddy is there 100% to assist the player. Whether it be as meteorologist, nutritionist, agronomist, sports psychologist, surveyor, geologist, or whatever the need related to the player, the caddy is there to provide assistance on a multitude of levels...to find a 'cure' for a need.

Combine these 'assistance' roots that have been firmly planted from our caddy history and charitable program with a deeply patriotic heart for our country, and it's a natural off-shoot to find a way to assist veterans who have returned home wounded.  These brave fellow citizens who answered the call to serve our country need assistance in their post-service lives which have been forever changed.

So how does Caddy For A Cure 'assist' our combat wounded warriors with a 'cure'? Through golf, of course! There is nothing like being at one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, for a day inside the ropes with the world's best golfers, to distract someone from the cares of this world and to make them feel special. A world completely removed from battlefields and hospitals. Assistance through a game to provide a sense of hope, encouragement and in some cases, direction. Assistance. Assistance through recognition. Assistance through support. Assistance through opportunity. A 'cure' for aspects of a changed life.

Through this great game of golf and as a further extension of our service and assistance to veterans, Caddy For A Cure is proud to serve as the Tournament Director for the Blue Angels Foundation Annual Golf Invitational. This Golf Invitational provides benefits to the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station in San Diego, a  wonderful facility that offers severely wounded warriors respite and rehabilitation as they prepare to find their way back into society.

The event was held a few weeks ago at the Del Mar Country Club in San Diego, raising over $300,000 for this marvelous cause. While the money will indeed help immensely, nothing was better nor more inspirational than seeing these combat wounded veterans "tee it up" and rip it.

Sometimes we all need a dose of reality to stoke the flames of our passions. For us, watching the joy and confidence after a near perfect strike that reached nearly 200 yards in distance by a young man who lost an arm in combat indeed re-ignites the passion to assist and serve.

Yes, we "caddy for a cure" to offer assistance and a 'cure' to many issues that we face in today's world.

V/R,
