2015, "The Year of the Dad." What a thrill it is to see how much is changing in our society so people can be who they want to be in the different parts of their lives. Yet much more needs to be done. In collaboration with many wonderful colleagues, I'm grateful to be able to do my small part.
I'm happy to report Leading the Life You Want became a Wall Street Journal bestseller and made several year-end best book lists. I've started posting regularly on LinkedIn, especially about the fascinating guests I have had the pleasure of hosting on my weekly radio show, and I am continuing to write on HBR.org (out this week -- Get More Done by Focusing Less on Work) and elsewhere. My Coursera course launches Sunday February 8. Details and more news follow.
Thanks for your interest in learning about leading from the point of view of the whole person, Stew

Where in the World? |
The best part of crisscrossing the country for a book tour is running into former students, some of whom I've not seen since I started teaching in 1984. That's right, I've been at Wharton for over 30 years! Follow on Twitter for pix of my wanderings, and more substantive links, too.
Technology has had a salutary effect on the meaning of "book tour." Many of my book talks this go-round have been webinars, like the ones I did with Ellevate and Bright Horizons. Way easier than flying! Some of the places I've had the privilege of visiting in person: 92nd Street Y, Bloomberg, Cisco, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Google, Morgan Stanley, Motley Fool, Sleep Number, and Target.

People are loving our new 18-item skills assessment online. Use it to figure out how good you are at the skills for being real, being whole, and being innovative. Then receive a report comparing your performance to worldwide averages as well as tips for developing these skills. And discover whose strengths are most like yours: Tom Tierney, Sheryl Sandberg, Michelle Obama, Eric Greitens, Julie Foudy, or Bruce Springsteen.
If you have not already checked out www.myfourcircles.com, join the thousands who have benefited from doing so. Draw a picture of the four domains of your life -- work, home, community, and self -- by sizing them according to their importance. Move them to show whether they are compatible or in conflict. Analyze the meaning of this picture. Generate ideas for experiments. Ask people you know for help. Rinse and repeat.

Alumni Spotlight -- Chris Marvin
|
A Wharton TL alum and wounded veteran Chris Marvin, founder of Got Your 6, is a great exemplar of Total Leadership principles in action, taking his particular talents and passions and converting them into real value for others. I just interviewed him on Work and Life radio and this week he was featured in The New York Times, talking about his mission to alter the erroneous perception of vets as "broken heroes."
