     The Commercial Real Estate Forecast Luncheon comes to Oakland September 21 as area real estate organizations host two highly-respected industry economists.
Sicola2      Maria Sicola is an Executive Managing Director at Cushman & Wakefield and Head of Research for the Americas. She has been with Cushman & Wakefield since 1981. Prior to that Ms. Sicola was the Director of Research for a Dun & Bradstreet Company engaged in corporate site selection. During her tenure as head of Research, Ms. Sicola developed an award-winning database platform, SiteSolutions, recognized by Bill Gates as a unique application of Microsoft's Access software.

  Bach    As Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, Bob Bach prepares Newmark Grubb Knight Frank's national market publications covering the office, industrial, retail and investment markets. Bach oversees the preparation of approximately 90 Metro Trends reports covering quarterly market conditions in metropolitan office and industrial markets across the U.S. He works with research managers in the local offices of NGKF to ensure their data are accurate. He is a frequent speaker at national professional conferences. Bach has 30 years of professional experience in real estate market research, consulting and city planning.

 Balancing National Security and Human Rights After 9/11

 

Ten years after 9/11, what is our national security policy,
and how is it affecting our local and global communities?

Huskey     

 Kristine Huskey does advocacy and policy work in matters of national security and international human rights as the Director of the Anti-Torture Program at a non-governmental organization; she is also an adjunct professor of national security at Georgetown Law School. Kristine received her JD from The University of Texas School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University. She is one of few women working in the national security arena and her experiences have taken her around the world. Kristine grew up in Alaska and Saudi Arabia, and her quest for human rights has taken her from Washington DC to Guantanamo Bay. Kristine is an educator, author and speaker, was profiled in Marie Claire and has appeared on CNN, C-SPAN, BBC and NPR.

Bowling with IREM  

Steve and Lori Burger watch as Austin Stuber demonstrates his two-handed bowling technique at the Bowling With IREM event in Dublin last month.  Chapter President Dan Stuber and his three sons mentored novice bowlers.

 

Flipping burgers 

Rob Crider of Universal Maintenance, and his son, flipped a lot of burgers during the Tailgating Party at the Oakland A's game in July.  Mandi Newton of Varsity Painting organized the event which a couple hundred members, Friends and sponsors saw the A's beat the Yankees.

Past Chapter President Fred Freund died July 9

Fredric Freund, CPM, of Hanford-Freund & Company, died July 9 following a short illness. Fred held the CPM designation for 53 years, and was chapter president in 1966. Born in Denver, CO, Fred was raised in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from John Burroughs High School and Brown University. Shortly after serving as a radio operator in the Army, he moved to San Francisco and began a successful career in commercial real estate. A past two-term president of the San Francisco Association of Realtors, Fred was named Honorary Member for Life of the California Association of Realtors in 2011. Fred was active in a number of other business, civic and charitable organizations. Those interested in making donations in memory of Fredric S. Freund are encouraged to contribute to San Francisco Boys & Girls Club (55 Hawthorne Street, Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94105), Larkin Street Youth Services (701 Sutter Street, Suite 2, San Francisco, CA 94109) or the charity of their choice.
