JJ Curran honored with Detroit Business Certification

It’s official! JJ Curran has been honored by the City of Detroit as a Detroit Based Business (DBB) and Detroit Small Business (DSB). These designations do not come lightly from the City’s Human Rights Department. There is a strict code of ethics an eligible business must follow to gain certification eligibility.

“We are extremely honored and proud to have this Detroit Business Certification,” said JJ Curran President Larry Curran. “We have always prided ourselves on doing what is right for our customers and employees and we hope others see our ongoing commitment to Detroit and the benefits of supporting local businesses.”

JJ Curran Crane Company can be found on the 2016 Detroit Business Certification Program Business Register.

New Liebherr added to JJ Curran Fleet

JJ Curran Crane Company added a brand new Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1 to its growing fleet of all-terrain cranes. This 155-ton crane features ground-breaking technology and safety features, 197 ft. of main boom and 62 ft. of swinging jib.

“This crane will be our mid-range workhorse for years to come,” says JJ Curran President, Larry Curran. “It is easy to set up, road-friendly and will fill a gap in our fleet in terms of capacity and reach due to its long and variable boom system.”

Compact and maneuverable for its size, the new crane is ideally suited for industrial jobsites and petro-chemical work.

According to JJ Curran CFO Jeff Curran, “At 155 tons maximum capacity, this crane falls into the proverbial sweet spot for our customer base and we look forward to booking it for our Michigan and Ohio customers.”

JJ Curran supports Detroit Junior Hockey and Youth Ice Hockey Programs

Jason McCrimmn helps lace up a Detroit youth learning the game of hockey

Anyone who knows the Curran family, knows hockey is in their blood. Founder JJ Curran helped support the openings of several metro Detroit ice rinks; Larry Curran laced up for Michigan State University during his college days; Jeff Curran coached hockey for many years and continues to play recreational hockey twice a week; and the Curran’s have been Detroit Red Wing season-ticket holders for more than 60 years!

To ensure more young people have access to the sport, JJ Curran is a premier sponsor of the Motor City Hawks Junior Hockey Team and Detroit Ice Dreams.

The Motor City Hawks play in the USA Hockey sanctioned United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) in the 18-team Midwest Division. The USPHL has a long reputation for sending players to higher levels of hockey and D1, 2 and 3 colleges.

Detroit Ice Dreams is a non-profit youth ice hockey program dedicated to promoting and subsidizing ice related sports such as hockey & figure skating in underrepresented communities. Founder and team president Jason McCrimmon learned to skate as a child at Jack Adams Arena in Detroit and became a professional player recruited to play in Finland. Today, McCrimmon gives back to the sport by teaching Detroit-area youth the love of the game.

“We are so proud to support the Motor City Hawks and Detroit Ice Dreams,” said Jeff Curran. “These young people are playing some amazing hockey and we hope they can realize their dreams and take it as far as they can.”
