The Spirit of Service:
Fabretto Volunteers
Celebrating Volunteer Service

The second week of April is National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize all of the dedicated individuals who have donating time, resources, and energy to volunteering with Fabretto to support children in Nicaragua.

Our volunteers are an integral part of the Fabretto family. Many thanks to all of the service groups and individual volunteers that have come so far in 2014!

An Evening with President Clinton

President Clinton with Kevin Marinacci, President of Fabretto
Fabretto was honored to spend an evening recently in NYC with President Bill Clinton and Fabretto supporters discussing the importance of education and development in Nicaragua and around the globe.

This year, at the Clinton Global Initiative Latin America meeting (CGI Latin America), Fabretto made a CGI Commitment to Action to expand rural education programs through 4-H clubs and strategic international partnerships. Fabretto looks forward to continuing to make connections with key players in international education and development.

Volunteer Impact

Mike and Gabriel, 2013

In 2009-2010, Mike Zelek volunteered in Cusmapa with Fabretto, where he taught classes and supported children with special health needs. As he reached out to the community, he found Gabriel, a child in critical condition due to severe malnourishment. With support from Mike and Fabretto, Gabriel received nutritional supplements and was placed with an adoptive family. Mike reflected, "They are just an incredibly loving and giving family, and in many ways epitomize what a volunteer should be."

On volunteering with Fabretto, Mike reflected: "Volunteers can have a tremendous impact on Fabretto's work. The important thing for volunteers is to go in with a humble and selfless attitude, and work as closely with local staff as much as possible to fulfill Fabretto's mission. Ultimately, it is these partnerships that create success." Read more of Mike's thoughts on our blog.

In December 2013, volunteers Genís and Kait visited Cusmapa to follow up on Gabriel's progress. The short film below tells the story of Gabriel's journey and the impact that Fabretto volunteers can have to truly change a child's life.
