DO YOU KNOW TEDx TYSONS? YOU WILL...
|
The Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to officially announce that we are bringing TEDx to Tysons!
So, what is TED?
TED is an annual event that brings together the world's leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline-technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business and development.
A TEDx event, combines live speakers and TED Talks videos to spark deep discussion and connections. In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.
Dedicated Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce members have made it their mission to apply for and set up a half-day event in June of 2016. The theme of TEDx Tysons will be "Future Tense?" We will invite thought leaders in their field to discuss the future of their industry. These are exciting times on Jones Branch Drive!
The challenge is yet to come. There will be thousands of hours of planning that go on behind the scenes. We welcome help in a variety of ways:
- Like TEDxTysons on Facebook & follow us on Twitter,
-
Familiarize yourself with TED Talks and the TED mission by watching at TED.com
- Rack your brain for potential speakers and host,
-
Support our friends and attend a TEDx in our area
- TEDxMidAtlantic - Sept 25 & 26
- TEDxArlington - October 3rd

Digital How to Build a Powerful Presence
If you are reading this page, you are viewing a website online. "Digital presence" is all that stuff you do online with your story or your "content". . . like engaging with customers on Facebook and your blog, tweeting, videos on YouTube and your website, reviews of your products, and your website.
Your digital presence is the sum of all your online activities across web, mobile, social, and even large screen. Having a good or bad digital presence can have material impact on your brand, your revenue, and, most importantly, your long-term success. Smart digital marketing can help you attract and keep clients:
People. Your digital presence is all about your organization. Your core branding and messaging should be in place before you begin with your digital marketing. Clearly showcase who you are, who you help, and how you help. This means you will also need to do some work on clearly defining your target markets for your business. Tip: showcase your organization's people and expertise through photos, videos, and blogs on your website and social media networks.
Process. Think about your goals, budget, and the resources that might be required to go "digital". Consider which online marketing channels make sense for your business as well as the education or training you might need to get up to speed with building your online presence. You can track and map out how you create, manage, publish, monetize, engage with, and optimize your digital presence. Click here for a list of tools/resources from Forbes on how to monetize your social media campaigns.
Platform. Yes, you need technology to make it happen. Consider all the new features and changes you hear about from social networks as well as Google. What works today may not work as well in six months. Tip: proactively focus on building your community online through search engines (web traffic), social media (networking), and your email database.
"If you build it they will come" does not work in the real world. Ongoing social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), and online marketing all play very important roles in the continued health and success of a good online presence. It's a wired, wired world out there!

Protorae Law PLLC, a Tysons Corner based business law firm, celebrated its 5th
anniversary on September 1, 2015. This milestone marks the firm's growth since opening its doors with four attorneys in 2010, and is now home to 13 attorneys in addition to its managerial and support staff.
Designed around the needs of businesses, Protorae Law was co-founded by members James B. Kinsel and Brian F. Chandler with a focus on "Teaming with Today's Business," which describes the firm's approach with clients-to be their trusted advisor in navigating today's business legal environment.
With its beginnings as a Business Litigation, Corporate, and Employment Law firm, Protorae Law has since expanded its services to nine practice areas including Government Contracts, Business Transactions, Business Breakups, Real Estate, Unfair Business Practices, and its newly added Trusts and Estates practice in 2015.
"We are pleased with the firm's steady growth and diversity of practice over the past five years which enables us to provide strategic legal services throughout all stages of a company's lifecycle,"said co-founding member Brian Chandler.
Reflecting on the firm's history, co-founding member Jim Kinsel said, "We are honored to have had the opportunity to serve our clients over the past five years and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with clients for many years to come."

Mission Statement: The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, through volunteer efforts, education and advocacy, acquires, maintains and protects the trail and lands of the Appalachian Trail, other trails and related facilities in the Mid-Atlantic region for the enjoyment of present and future hikers.
The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) has been serving the hiking public since 1927! The Club's founder, Myron Avery, took the dream to create a footpath along the Appalachian Mountain chain from Georgia to Maine by visionary, Benton MacKaye, and made it a reality. Avery and early PATC club members were largely responsible for the construction of the Appalachian Trail (AT): measuring, surveying, creating new trail, and connecting existing trails in the 1920's and '30's.
Today PATC maintains 242 miles of the A.T. in southern PA, MD, WV, and VA through Shenandoah National Park to Rockfish Gap along with an additional 800 miles of side trails. The club also creates and publishes maps, hiking guides and history books pertinent to the mid-Atlantic region's trails and people. In addition to maintaining trails, PATC acquires land to protect them. Many parcels include a cabin which PATC then rents to members and the general public who want to enjoy the wilderness for more than a day without having to sleep in a tent! Cabins range from primitive with no running water or electricity to modern.
PATC joined the Tysons Chamber of Commerce in 2014 to become more familiar with the variety of services offered by the business community near our headquarters in Vienna. We also want to make our services known to the business community, realizing that the wilderness can be a respite from the daily tensions associated with work. For more information about PATC and the benefits of membership, visit our website at www.patc.net or contact Edna Baden at [email protected].
