With February of 2014 already halfway gone, it is my pleasure to report that great things are happening with Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (TRCC).
Even though the Board of Directors has spent most of the year shoveling snow, they have still managed to accomplish some great milestones.
Stacy Bradford of Insperity, led the Emerging Leader Council in hosting its first Mixer of the Year. There were more than 50 professionals in attendance and everyone raved about the great connections that were made. More great things to come from our emerging leaders.
On February 5, 2014, loyal member Blackfinn Ameripub, hosted our Installation Breakfast. Despite the threat of freezing rain, guest speaker, Dr. Gerald Gordon of the Fairfax Economic Development Authority, installed the new Board of Directors and provided a "sunny" outlook on Tysons. Be sure to check out the article online provided by Bruce Potter of the Sun Gazette on Monday, February 10, 2014.
The Community Impact Council hosted a recent seminar on Becoming a Networking Star. Thanks to Tony Barnett, Leros Technologies Corporation for lecturing on the finer points of networking. Jan Ridgely of United Charitable Programs continues to do an excellent job developing the Community Impact Council.
And on Friday, February 28th, join us for Casino Night at Westwood Country Club. We are very excited to be working with those involved in the 2015 World Police & Fire Games, for which a portion of the proceeds will be donated. See below for more information.
Stay tuned for the many excellent opportunities during the course of the year, for Chamber members to make business connections and pick up valuable information in order to improve their business. Please check the website often for events and programs. If you would like to become more involved, feel free to contact myself or Sharon Brown at the Chamber office for more information.
Warm Regards,
Mark S. Rogoff
Chairman of the Board
Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce

Member Spotlight: Dogtopia
Dogtopia is the premier pet care facility in the Tysons Corner area. Our CEO Amy Nichols founded Dogtopia with the Tysons Corner location in 2002, and began franchising in 2005. We now have 29 locations opened across the country, with 12 more in development in the US and Canada.
Dogtopia is a combination facility designed with the busy dog owner in mind. Our services incorporate several components, primarily dog daycare, but also overnight boarding, spa services, grooming, self-serve bathing and retail boutique. All dogs that attend daycare or boarding receive lots of love and attention from our well-trained team while their owners are at work, on vacation or just running errands. Anyone can check in on the fun via our live webcams online.
In addition to the pampering of thousands of dogs a year, charitable giving and active community service are cornerstones of the Dogtopia model. The company is proud to sponsor foster dogs and offer a first day of daycare free to dogs rescued from shelters. In 2010 Dogtopias nationwide raised and donated over $50,000 for local and national charities. In addition, Dogtopia's Annual K9 Support Dog Wash raises funds to support military, rescue and service dogs. As Dogtopia strives to be a large part of the community, involvement with the Chamber has been critical to the growth of our business. The Chamber has helped the Tysons Corner community grow and evolve and Dogtopia is excited to take part!
Dogtopia's philosophy is simple: We live with honesty and integrity because we are being entrusted with precious canine family members. We love supporting the communities that support us by actively seeking opportunities to give back. Most of all, we play with unabashed, passionate enthusiasm!

Tech Corner: High-Profile Data Breaches Reaffirm Need For Small Business Security
December and January were dark days for data security.
Just before Christmas, Target announced that credit and debit card info from over 40 million customers had been hacked over a three-week period of holiday shopping.
On December 28th, German researchers revealed how cybercriminals had taken advantage of Windows XP security lapses to infect European ATMs with malware.
And on January 1st, online messaging service Snapchat alerted over 4.5 million users that their usernames and phone numbers had been posted online in an apparent attempt to expose the company's data vulnerabilities.
What do these three stories have in common? They highlight the fact that anyone - major retailers, online entities, small businesses, brick-and-mortar shoppers, Internet users - can be affected by a data breach. Read on .
