Complex Surgery Leads to Shelter Cat's Adoption
In honor of Adopt-a-Cat Month, we bring you the tale of Maeve, a one-year-old domestic shorthair shelter cat. On a long road to adoption, she had help from students, a surgeon, and a certified veterinary technician at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission. Pet Tip: Heat Stroke in Horses

You already know to take it easy on your horse in the heat of summer. But did you know that heat stroke can strike even a horse that's just relaxing in the pasture?
Watch for signs like weakness, loss of appetite, rapid breathing and pulse, and dehydration. If you're worried, move your horse to the shade, sponge him with cool water to lower his temperature, and call your veterinarian.

If needed, experts at the UW Veterinary Care Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital can be reached at 800-386-8684.

Liver Disease Studies

The Internal Medicine Service has two ongoing studies aimed at developing less invasive ways to test for liver disease in dogs. If your canine has been diagnosed with liver disease, he or she may be eligible for enrollment in one or both of these studies.

UW Veterinary Care can offer a liver biopsy package at a discounted price for clients with participating pets. More.
