The Glades PATCH is a program designed to help the community evaluate, plan and implement health education and disease prevention and intervention programs. PATCH helps promote the health of the community to include social, emotional and physical well-being of its citizens. PATCH is a partnership of concerned citizens and organizations. This partnership provides a forum for identifying health problems affecting the community and mobilizing the community to plan, conduct and evaluate intervention services.

The U.S. Labor Department announced overtime final regulations that, when they go into effect on December 1, 2016, will mean that most employees earning less than $47,500 per year will be entitled to overtime compensation, regardless of whether they are currently classified as executive, administrative, or professional (white-collar) workers.  Does this new regulation apply to my nonprofit? This is a simple question with a complicated answer for each nonprofit, and depends on where your employees perform their duties, the nature of your revenues, and the work that individual employees perform. 2016 Putting Kids First: Community Back To School Bash - Registration Deadline Is June 17th

We are thrilled to announce the 2016 Putting Kids First: Community Back to School Bash!  This wonderful annual event will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at six (6) locations throughout the County, and we need your assistance with registering all kids in need in our Countywide Community Revitalization Team (CCRT) communities. As you probably know, the Office of Community Revitalization (OCR) has been partnering with the Community Back to School Bash (CBSB) collaborative to provide school supplies to kids in need from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The program is a countywide initiative of government working in partnership with the Community Back to School Bash (BASH) and other community service organizations to provide children in need with school supplies and backpacks.  The program is implemented through an annual event funded by Palm Beach County and the CBSB collaborative, comprised of more than 60 nonprofit and other agencies.

Art Exhibitions at The Lawrence E. Will Museum

The Lawrence E. Will Museum of the Glades is proud to display the photography of Glades Academy's 4th Grade Class! The student's photographic compositions are featured in the book "Five Buildings" which was sponsored by the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach County.
The work will be on display at LEWM for several weeks. Additionally, fine art paintings by members of the Glades Art Group are on display through Christmas. The Glades Art Group was founded by Graham Ingles, a former Belle Glade resident art teacher who became famous late in life for being the creator of the "Tales from the Crypt" comic series. His student Anne Tyler is featured in the exhibition as are local artists Jane Shoenfeld and Jane Thompson.

EmpowHER Leadership Academy for Girls
 
EmpowHER Leadership Academy for Girls will empower female students from various schools throughout the Palm Beach County District.  The academy supports diversity and would introduce the junior and senior girls to organizations that are led by women executives and will focus on job shadowing, interview skills, resume writing, effective communication both verbal and written, career exploration and much more. The Leadership Academy is free and open to twenty (20) young ladies thanks to the generous donations of our sponsors.  The Leadership Academy will meet once a month during the Palm Beach County School District calendar beginning in September of 2016, with eight (8) planned business tours in the areas of Leadership Empowerment (leadership and branding), Political Empowerment, Economic Empowerment and Education Empowerment.  Training will be provided from Palm Beach County's Women Experts.  The Leadership Academy participants will also be provided with a trip to Tallahassee to tour the Florida State Capitol. The tour would offer the girls an opportunity to meet face-to-face with legislators and learn more about the political process. Upon completion of the program in May of 2017, participants will finish with a leadership certificate and community service hours to be awarded during our year end Student Achievement Awards Program.
Criteria to participate:
*           Full-time student in Palm Beach County School System
*           Grade Point Average (GPA) of a 2.5 and higher
*           Essay describing why you feel you are a good candidate for this program

The School District of Palm Beach County (PBC), PBC Youth Services Department, Children's Services Council, United Way of PBC, CareerSource PBC and a host of other public and private organizations are in the process of developing a Youth Master Plan.  A Youth Master Plan is a collaborative document that will guide our efforts to ensure all students and young adults are healthy and thriving.  This effort has been branded "Birth to 22: United for Brighter Futures," and your input is an essential component for its success. Summer Smiles Program for Children at the Health Care District's C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics

Summer is a great time to brighten your child's smile with a visit to the C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics.  We provide both general and preventive dental care and medical services at our clinics in Belle Glade, Delray Beach, Lantana and West Palm Beach and medical care only at our clinic in western Lake Worth.  Make an appointment for your children's dental check-up and medical visit now before they go back to school by calling 561-642-1000.  The Health Care District of Palm Beach County's Brumback Clinics see all patients and Medicaid is accepted.  Services include school and sports physicals, financial counseling, social services and help applying for health coverage.  The Brumback Clinics also have pharmacies on-site.  Our caring, compassionate dental and medical staff speak English, Spanish and Creole.  For hours, locations and directions, visit http://clbrumbackprimarycareclinics.org/locations/ 
 
Summer 2016 Human Trafficking Academy
 
Through fifteen intensive and inter-active courses taught by top-level experts, academics and practitioners, we aim at empowering you with valuable knowledge, effective skills and helpful tools to address the scourge of human trafficking: commercial sexual exploitation and labor trafficking. You will leave the Academy knowing better and more intelligent ways of doing your noble work of saving lives and restoring dignity to survivors while improving justice in our society.  Academy participants will gain insight into various manifestations of human trafficking, best approaches and successful practices by addressing the problem from their specific vantage-point, modalities of working with survivors, as well as ways of cooperating with each other, and partnering with the public and private sector and with the community at large, in order to develop a cohesive and coherent anti-trafficking strategy. Upon completion of the training, Academy participants will be awarded a Certificate by St. Thomas University School of Law. 30 continuing legal education credits (pending) with The Florida Bar will be available for lawyers.
