Magician Adam Trent Is the "Magician Reinvented" at the Dolly Hand

What comes to mind when you think of a "Magician"? Is it a guy who makes awkward dance movements and tells stale jokes while torturing women in wooden boxes? Until recently, this has been a sobering reality of people's stereotype of magicians. Adam Trent's approach to magic is a fresh and new and magic reinvented!  Adam has always thought that magic should be entertaining first and tricky second. He doesn't want people to remember just the "tricks", but also the laughs and the memories that were made. Strange? Let's say unique...he can't remember a time in his life when he wasn't performing. He began with birthday party shows at age 9 for kids that were older than he was (slightly awkward), and corporate events when he was 13 (slightly illegal). At 14 he started street performing which was the most amazing/brutal training a performer could ever have. It taught him to build a crowd and be entertaining in the worst of situations.

Adam discovered an audience's true attention span, because they just walked away if things got boring. At 18, he went to college in Los Angeles and got a degree in Finance and Entertainment Marketing. Apart from learning that a tiger would be tax-deductible, he got a crash course in LA's music and comedy scene. He realized that the most important element in a show is the performer's connection to the audience, and without that, even amazing skill can fall as flat as a bad boy band.  So that's the way Adam approaches his performance style. Above all else, prepare to feel very different than you expected to after a "Magic Show". He'll bet his reputation on it.

The Improvised Shakespeare Company at Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center!

The Improvised Shakespeare Company (ISC) is returning to the Dolly Hand on Tuesday, February 16! Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to be written) The Improvised Shakespeare Co. creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Each of the playershas brushed up on his "thee's" and "thou's" to bring you an evening of off-the-cuff comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare. Any hour could be filled with power struggles, star-crossed lovers, sprites, kings, queens, princesses, sword-play, rhyming couplets, asides, insults, persons in disguise and all that we've come to expect from the pen of the Great Bard. The night could reveal a tragedy, comedy, or history. Nothing is planned-out, rehearsed, or written. Each play is completely improvised, so each play is entirely new!

Founded in 2005, the troupe has been performing its critically-acclaimed show every Friday night at the world famous iO Theater in Chicago for over nine years and continues to entertain audiences around the globe with its touring company. The ISC has been featured at the Piccolo Spoleto Fringe Festival, Off Broadway in New York City, the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival, UCB's Del Close Marathon, and the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and Chicago. It has been named Chicago's best improv group by both the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Examiner and has received a New York Nightlife Award for "Best Comedic Performance by a Group". The ISC was recently honored by the Chicago Improv Foundation as its "Ensemble of the Year". TimeOut Chicago says The Improvised Shakespeare Company is "staggeringly brilliant!" and "smart. sophisticated, downright hilarious!"

The ISC will be in Belle Glade for two days, conducting workshops and performing for Palm Beach State College's Glades Campus students in addition to the public show on Tuesday night.

Three Part Ethical Empowerment Series - Palm Beach State College

The Ethics Connections Program is a three-part ethical empowerment series designed to connect you with the comprehensive knowledge, skills and abilities to live and work with integrity in today's  rapidly emerging "ethical frontier". Dynamic changes in technology, science, and an increasingly global society are creating an expanding "gray area" of complex ethical dilemmas beyond our existing laws and policies, or even our own basic understanding!

Navigating this "New Normal" successfully will require a finely tuned moral compass that is intentionally developed and consistently maintained on a regular basis. The Ethics Connections Program offers you a path to understanding the role of ethical values in action and developing strategies to apply them effectively to your personal and professional life through awareness, approaches, and action. *Participants who complete each of the three sessions will be awarded a Certificate of Completion following the final session.
