With 3.2 million uninsured Florida, our state has the third highest uninsured rate in the nation (16.6 percent). Moreover, as many as 775,000 Floridians are stranded in Florida's coverage gap while more than 50,000 veterans have no health care options. This is just a glimpse at the state of health care in Florida.
Currently, the most a parent in Florida can earn and still qualify for health care coverage is $4,821 per year or 24 percent of the federal poverty level ($402 per month for a family of three). People without children cannot access coverage through Medicaid at all. Since implementation of the Affordable Care Act, state lawmakers have passed on the opportunity to return Florida's federal tax dollars back to our state and close the health care coverage gap. This has gone on long enough.
The Florida Health Alliance is a coalition of over 100 organizations committed to promoting access to health care for Floridians. We recognize the great need for health care in this state and believe that closing the coverage gap is a large part of the solution. Join us in our fightto make sure that hundreds of thousands of hardworking Floridians can pursue productive lives with the security of health care coverage.
