Give from Your Heart to Glades Families - and Get a Chance to Win a Car

We are partnering with The Honda Classic to offer our supporters a chance
to win a 2016 Honda automobile while helping Glades families at the same time.

Birdies for Children participates with local charities who obtain pledges of $20 or more.  Those donors earn an opportunity to guess the number of birdies made during the Honda Classic with 110% of the donation going directly to your selected charity.  A birdie is a score of one stroke less than par on any hole.  (They'll provide the past six years results for hints and educated guesses).

A huge THANK YOU to our friends and supporters who have already donated!!

Fancy Nancy Comes to the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center!

The Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center at Palm Beach State College in Belle Glade is excited to present
Fancy Nancy.  Come and  see this popular book character come to life for the holiday season! What could be fancier than Christmas? Presents with elegant wrapping paper, festive decorations and Christmas cookies with sprinkles - Ooh la la! And who could forget the tree? This year, Nancy is especially excited. She bought a brand-new sparkly tree topper with her own money and can't wait to decorate the Christmas tree. But when things don't turn out the way Nancy planned, will Christmas still be splendiferous?
Following the performance, enjoy refreshments and lots of fun activities sponsored by the Bank of Belle Glade and the Glades Area Branches of the Palm Beach County Library System. There will also be a book-signing with Tracie Gold and her series of "Bonnie the Bunny" books. Parents, bring your cameras for this fun event which is included in the price of admission.

Stakeholder Interviews - State Road 80 Corridor Action Plan

The FDOT is conducting a corridor planning study along the 45-mile segment of SR 80 (Southern Boulevard)
from US 27 to I-95. The purpose is to develop an Action Plan to protect and enhance the ability of this segment
of SR 80 to serve its regional mobility function. As part of the Strategic Intermodal System (SIS), the function
of SR 80 is to provide safe and efficient mobility for people and freight within Palm Beach County, and across southern Florida. The SIS is a high-priority network of transportation facilities critical to Florida's economic competitiveness.

Due to the length and regional significance of the SR 80 corridor, as well as the number of communities it traverses, FDOT is committed to seeking collaboration and participation from community stakeholders and the public. As part of the study kick-off, the study team is conducting interviews with stakeholders which include local government representatives, community organizations, major employers, and regional agencies.

The purpose of these interviews is to explain the study process, seek input on issues and opportunities, and provide interested persons an opportunity to get involved in the study. The stakeholder interviews will be conducted over a four-day period during the week of December 14th at the location listed below. The study team will be available  at these locations to conduct up to 30-minute interviews between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and to answer questions
regarding the study.

SWA's Residential Recycled Paint Program - Free Paint if you qualify

Please find the application with criteria and paint colors for the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) residential recycled paint program below. This paint is made from leftover paint that residents bring to SWA facilities.  The paint is then sent to a paint manufacturer that "recycles" the paint, creating the colors that you see on the attachment.

Besides using the paint for Paint Your Heart Out and Rebuilding Together, where volunteers paint the homes of homeowners in need, SWA is initiating this program where the SWA furnishes this recycled paint at no cost to owner occupied homes with a maximum size of 2500 square feet (per Property Appraiser website).

Navigate PBC's Alphabet Soup Training

You are invited to attend Navigate PBC's Alphabet Soup Training. People in organizations and in communities who share common experiences sometimes begin to use words and abbreviations or "acronyms" that become a language of their own. Increasing the knowledge and awareness of health and human services programs/services and agencies in an ever-changing local, state and federal landscape is difficult and time consuming.
The myriad of federal, state and local programs/services is like a bowl of Alphabet Soup, OE3, HUD, SNAP, is all a bunch of letters. This upcoming training will give you a clear understanding on acronyms that are intended to help make communication more effective. The Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Year 3 (OE3), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and more will be discussed during this upcoming training.

Training attendees will have the opportunity to network with other local professionals and receive materials electronically to assist in navigating through existing programs, services and agencies.  Click here to register for this event.   Please RSVP by December 10, 2015, while space is still available. If you know someone else who would benefit from this training, please forward this email.  If you have questions or need additional information about this event, please contact [email protected]

Spread the Word, and #Close the Gap

With 3.2 million uninsured Florida, our state has the third highest uninsured rate in the nation (16.6 percent). Moreover, as many as 775,000 Floridians are stranded in Florida's coverage gap while more than 50,000 veterans have no health care options. This is just a glimpse at the state of health care in Florida.

Currently, the most a parent in Florida can earn and still qualify for health care coverage is $4,821 per year or 24 percent of the federal poverty level ($402 per month for a family of three). People without children cannot access coverage through Medicaid at all. Since implementation of the Affordable Care Act, state lawmakers have passed on the opportunity to return Florida's federal tax dollars back to our state and close the health care coverage gap.  This has gone on long enough.

The Florida Health Alliance is a coalition of over 100 organizations committed to promoting access to health care for Floridians. We recognize the great need for health care in this state and believe that closing the coverage gap is a large part of the solution.  Join us in our fight to make sure that hundreds of thousands of hardworking Floridians can pursue productive lives with the security of health care coverage.

It's that time of year again to schedule volunteers for the South Florida Fair!  I know you support our organization's endeavors so I am hoping you will be willing to volunteer some of your time to hand out drowning prevention and water safety information. You receive free entry, shirt, and the satisfaction of promoting this life safety issue!  If you volunteer for more than 5 shifts you will receive a picture ID which pretty much allows you to come and go to the Fair as you please.

We have 17 days that we need to cover our booth and need 3 people per shift.  This year we are hoping to break our record of obtaining 3,500 pool safely pledges. The Drowning Prevention Coalition is nothing without its volunteers. So please, help us promote our mission! Days/times of shifts are on a first come; first serve basis so let me know as soon as you can when and what time you would like to assist.
