The Glades Initiative's Annual United Way Campaign Ends this Friday!
For our workplace campaign to support the United Way of Palm Beach County, The Glades Initiative invites you to participate in our 50/50 prize drawing. 50% of the total collected will go to the owner of the ticket selected. The ticket selection will take place at our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck on November 20, and 50% of the total collected will be donated to The United Way of Palm Beach County. Tickets are currently available for a $1.00 donation at our office or from any of our staff members. You need not be present to win.

Please join us in welcoming President Ava Parker to our GTAC meeting. It is very important that each our you come out to support and discuss with President Parker the any matters of concern or interest that you may have concerning the growth and development of PBSC. She has agreed to join our meeting to participate in celebrating our successes and resolving and/or developing solutions to our challenges and problems in the community. Ava L. Parker began serving as President of Palm Beach State College, the largest institution of higher education in Palm Beach County, effective July 1, 2015. She moved to that position after serving since 2012 as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Florida Polytechnic University, the state's first public university focused on applied research in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. As the first executive hired, Parker was responsible for developing strategy, implementing the vision, building the team, opening the new campus and preparing for the university's Fall, 2014 inaugural class.

All adults in household must be working and/or engaged in eligible education activities for a minimum of 20 hours per week (unless exempt from work requirements as documented by a licensed physician due to age or disability).
Household income does not exceed federal guidelines for household size.
Reside in Palm Beach County
If the family meets the eligibility requirement, the Early learning Coalition will be able to serve all children in the family who are not yet 13 years of age. Families can apply for school readiness funding online or the kiosk at any the Early Learning Coalition locations

The Lawrence E. Will Museum of the Glades
The Lawrence E. Will Museum of the Glades invites visitors of all ages to view our current exhibit "People of the Water" which features artifacts from and interpretive displays about the Belle Glade Archaeological Culture of the Pre-Columbian Glades area. The museum also boasts exhibits on local history and culture, including the deadly Hurricane of 1928, and the history of agriculture and industry in the Glades. It's that time of year again to schedule volunteers for the South Florida Fair! I know you support our organization's endeavors so I am hoping you will be willing to volunteer some of your time to hand out drowning prevention and water safety information. You receive free entry, shirt, and the satisfaction of promoting this life safety issue! If you volunteer for more than 5 shifts you will receive a picture ID which pretty much allows you to come and go to the Fair as you please.
We have 17 days that we need to cover our booth and need 3 people per shift. This year we are hoping to break our record of obtaining 3,500 pool safely pledges. The Drowning Prevention Coalition is nothing without its volunteers. So please, help us promote our mission! Days/times of shifts are on a first come; first serve basis so let me know as soon as you can when and what time you would like to assist.

Nonprofits First is now accepting applications for the 2016 Rising Leaders program, which is sponsored in part by the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County.
Launched in 2005, the 6-month program teaches emerging nonprofit leaders effective strategies to handle major leadership and organizational challenges. Through lectures, discussions, group exercises and other activities, participants interact, discover, communicate, and serve as they build their skills to become leaders in the nonprofit sector.
The class begins in January 2016 and runs through May 2016 with graduation in June.
