movie
Movie Matinee at The Clarence E Anthony Library - South Bay

Movie Matinee: "A Better Life." Summit Entertainment. (98 min.) PG-13

A BETTER LIFE is a small but very effective movie about an illegal Mexican immigrant in Los Angeles and his teenage son, who go on a desperate citywide search for the father's stolen new gardening truck. A BETTER LIFE is a riveting, heartfelt family drama with positive Christian references, but it has some light politically correct elements to its story and contains too much foul language, so strong caution is advised.

14th Annual REACH Health Fair Planning Meeting REACHlogo

Many of our Glades residents are uninsured or underinsured and do not have a "Medical Home".  Residents lacking a medical home do not receive consistent, preventative medical care, and only visit the hospital emergency room after they are in more serious medical need - a more costly alternative for the individual and the larger system of care.

We are currently planning our 14th Annual Glades REACH health fair, to be held October 24, 2015 with a goal of encouraging uninsured/underinsured residents to establish a medical home.  The fair will be held simultaneously at the C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinic in Belle Glade and Florida Community Health Center in Pahokee , (both Federally Qualified Health Centers FQHCs), as we want residents to visit the actual facility that will become their medical home, where they can receive consistent, comprehensive,  preventative medical care.

WHEN:  September 22, 2015    9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

WHERE:  The Glades Initiative, Inc., 141 SE Avenue C, Belle Glade

Note: the Pahokee event will be in collaboration with ClearVue Eye Center's "Eye Walk, Eye Run" 5K Walk for Diabetes

The Power of Mental Health Screening

Shedding light on our mental health crisis; how early screening and early intervention will help us treat mental illness #B4Stage4. You are invited to hear about a new analysis of information from over half a million mental health screenings conducted by Mental Health America that can change the way think about the needs of people with mental illness and their caregivers. The policy and treatment implications are enormous. Palm Beach County data will be included.
Please join us to hear President and CEO of Mental Health America, Paul Gionfriddo reveal the results of their screening program for the first time.
  • Find out what mental health condition veterans most frequently screen for (it isn't PTSD).
  • Learn who caregivers are, what mental health conditions they experience, and what they really need from service providers.
  • See what our children as young as eleven are worrying about when they are concerned about mental health, and find out the surprising percentage who are already at risk - and why early intervention is critically important today!
  • What do people who are LGBTQ say in a confidential screening?
The answers to these questions could change the way we deliver mental health services in our community.
