Family Game Night at the South Bay Library

Close out the summer reading program with food, family and fun. Play Connect Four, Twister, Candyland and some old favorites like Mancala and Uno. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.       All ages. (60 min.)

WHEN: Wednesday, July 29, 2015     5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Clarence E. Anthony Library, 375 S.W. 2nd Ave South Bay

Do you have library fines? Are you under the age of 18? Now you can ...

READ DOWN YOUR FINES!

Children can spend time reading in the library, and earn Dewey Bucks to pay overdue fines on their library cards, purchase a replacement card, or buy a book bag (15 mins. = One Dewey Buck). Dewey Bucks cannot by used to pay for lost or damaged materials.

How it works:

1. Children and teens up to age 17 can participate.

2. Sign in with a Children's staff member who will record time.

3. While in the library, they can get credit for:

                                                                Reading by themselves.

Reading to/with younger children. If children are reading to each other, both earn credit.

4. Read any print media: books, magazines or newspapers.

5. After completing 15 minutes of reading, get a Dewey Buck from a library staff member.

6. Dewey Bucks can be turned in at the Library's Check Out desk to remove overdue fines, purchase a replacement card, or buy a book bag.

7. Fines must be paid before any other purchase.

OUR GREAT RESOURCE, VOLUNTEERS: HOW DO WE GET THEM, HOW DO WE KEEP THEM PRESENTED BY TONY BEALL, MISTER NONPROFIT CONSULTANCY

Tuesday, July 28, 2015
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm   No Cost

I bet you thought your Donors were your most important asset. They are way up there on the "important" list but do not forget about your Volunteers. Where would you be without them? How do you find them, train them, manage them, reward them, evaluate them, engage them, motivate them, measure their performance, grow them within the organization and build the loyalty and strength you so desire for them. Then, once you've done all of that how does your succession plan look, because you know that day will come and you must be ready for it. There are thing that you can do to build the Volunteer Corps that you want.

WHAT'S YOUR GIRL SCOUT COOKIES? CREATING A PRODUCT FOR YOUR NON-PROFIT AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISE...PRESENTED BY CHRISTOPHER A. NOE, PH.D

Tuesday, August 11, 2015    10:00 am - 12:00 pm No Cost

Does your nonprofit organization have a product or service that it can sell? Many non-profits are now asking, "what do we have that we could sell that could add to or create sustainable revenue?" As grants and traditional philanthropy are challenged, what does your nonprofit enterprise offer as a social or consumer good for sale? How can your nonprofit capitalize on its existing programs, products, or services that can lead to an enterprising concept? What's your proverbial "Girl Scout Cookies?"

Free Behavioral Health Screening for Back to School

Back to school health exams for children are well underway at many area health clinics and pediatrician's offices. But is your child getting the most complete care possible? MHAPBC is working with 15 local doctor's offices to provide simple well-child screenings for depression and anxiety as part of the regular exams needed for back to school. One of the most significant predictors of problems in school is unidentified depression and anxiety and between 15 and 20% of children have these conditions and are undiagnosed. We are working with local pediatricians, community centers, and after-school programs to ensure that children get the complete health care - including a 'check-up from the neck up'!

If you are a parent, service provider, pediatrician or caregiver and would like to know more about this free mental health screening program, please contact us on our NEW Mental Health GPS Helpline -- 561.801.HELP (4357). Call if you would like a free screening or just want to talk about mental health care and resources in our community. 561.801.4357

2015 Back To School Bash: Gaines Park

The Salvation Army Northwest Community Center, Northwest Community Consortium (NCCI), Florida Public Utilities, Lowes, Walmart, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Helping Hands Initiative, Palm Beach County Health Department, Urban League of Palm Beach County with assistance from The City of West Palm Beach is sponsoring its annual "Back-To-School Bash 2015", This community wide event is open to the residents of West Palm Beach. As our group consists of non-profits and local government we are enlisting the support of the community to provide resources to make this event a success.

Back to school can be an expensive time of the year. Consider all the items a child may need to head back to an institution of learning; pencils, pens, notebooks, a new book bag, clothes, shoes, etc. It all adds up and with the economy crunch, can you imagine how costly this can be for some families in your community who are already struggling to get by.

We will conduct pre-registration for the event beginning July 17th and ending on July 31st at the following locations: Gaines Park, 1505 North Australian Avenue West Palm Beach, Coleman Park, 1116 21st Street; West Palm Beach, 33407 and The Salvation Army Northwest Community Center, 600 N. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach, 33401. We request that forms be returned by, Friday, July 31st.

WHEN: Saturday, August 15, 2015     8:00 a.m. -  12:00 p.m.
