Property Fraud Alert - Free Service!

Clerk & Comptroller Sharon R. Bock has launched Property Fraud Alert, a free service that helps people protect their property from fraud by monitoring documents such as deeds and mortgages recorded in Palm Beach County. Using Property Fraud Alert, anyone can register to receive free alerts when a document is recorded using their name or their business's name. When users receive an alert, by email or phone, they can verify the activity was initiated by them and not someone attempting to commit property fraud. The public can sign up for the Clerk's Property Fraud Alert service by visiting the clerk's website at mypalmbeachclerk.com/property-fraud-alerts. Anyone who believes they have been the victim of fraud should contact their local law enforcement agency.

If you would like copies of posters or rack cards for your agency regarding this free service, please contact Tracy Rudnick at TRudnick@mypalmbeachclerk.com

The Summer BreakSpot Program 2015 Sites

Do you know a family that participates in the National School Lunch Program that could benefit from free meals for children during the summer months? The Summer BreakSpot Program has thousands of locations all over Florida to provide free nutritious meals while school is out. www.SummerFoodFlorida.org

Children need access to nutritious meals all year long to grow and thrive, but many children who rely on free and reduced-price school meals are at risk of hunger or poor nutrition when school is out for the summer.

At almost all sites, there is no application necessary and any child 18 or younger can simply come during meal times to receive a meal. However, we do suggest that you give them a call first to let the site know that your child may be coming during meal time. Some sites ask that an adult or responsible teen accompany children during the meal time because they don't have staff to handle extra children who may not be a part of their regular activity program.
Here is a list of "Summer Break Spots" in the Glades, along with their serving times:

World Sickle Cell Day

Your presence at this important Sickle Cell Symposium is of the utmost importance. Scientists published a study in the journal PLOS Medicine to warn of a 30% increase of the incidence of sickle cell. The symposium will give a better understanding of the challenge.  The theme of the event is "Faces and Voices of Sickle Cell" and is designed for South Florida stakeholders and gatekeepers to discuss the challenge and implications of sickle cell for our community. Since the discovery of sickle cell in the western hemisphere in 1910, considerable progress has been made in bio-medical research, disease surveillance, and care coordination; yet barriers to care and quality treatment persist.

The Sickle Cell Disease Research, Surveillance, Prevention and Treatment Act - which has been historically underfunded - expired in 2009 and efforts to reauthorize it has not been successful. On December 22, 2008 the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations, declared June 19 World Sickle Cell Day to raise awareness of the disease.  This resolution further recognized Sickle Cell as the World's "foremost and at times most lethal, genetic disease".  The first World Sickle Cell Day was celebrated on June 19, 2009.

Rural Community input to the Florida Transportation Plan (FTP)

Input from rural communities is needed. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is updating the Florida Transportation Plan (FTP) and the Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) Policy Plan. The process for updating the plans started with a visioning step. A statewide summit and five regional forums held in late 2014 and early 2015 provided opportunities for transportation and other partners to share their thoughts on the future transportation system for Florida. Many people representing a wide range of interests participated in the regional forum held in Delray Beach. You can find the real-time record for it at http://www.floridatransportationplan.com/pdf/DelrayBeach_RTR_2_5_1_Final.

The key themes for the state's transportation future identified through the visioning step are shown to the right. We now need your ideas on policy for the plan updates that will draw upon the key themes.

Four interactive regional workshops will be held in June. The one for Southeast Florida will be on June 24 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm in the FDOT District Four Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale. We hope you will consider attending.

We encourage you to sign up in advance to help us plan for the workshops (http://www.floridatransportationplan.com/regional.html). Walk-ins on the day of the workshop are welcome as well.

We encourage you to regularly visit www.floridatransportationplan.com as work on the plan updates continues to proceed. You can provide comments at any time on this website.

Webinar Series: Human Trafficking, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Assault

The prevalence of human trafficking across the country is widespread-spanning small, rural jurisdictions to sprawling cities-and affects both domestic and foreign-born children and adults. Because of the coercive and violent nature of human trafficking, it is common for victims to experience overlapping forms of victimization, particularly domestic violence and sexual assault. Yet, many survivors are unrecognized, criminalized, or do not receive adequate services to address their complex needs. How can multidisciplinary groups work together to identify survivors and direct them to services? How can key stakeholders enhance their capacity and collaboration to meet survivors' needs?

This five-part webinar series offers strategies, practical tips, case studies, and resources to help domestic violence and sexual assault service providers improve outcomes for human trafficking survivors. Each webinar highlights models for potential replication and features local and national subject matter experts.
