4th Annual Fatherhood Initiative

Pahokee Housing Authority and PBSO invite you to celebrate a Father's Day full of fun activities for adults and children.  Free food and Great prizes.  The event is part of a Nationwide Fatherhood Initiative that is designed to raise awareness about the importance of fatherhood and to help absent fathers re-engage with their families.

According to statistics drawn from communities across the country, children raised in absent father families are more at-risk for a host of negative factors, including dropping out of school. The focus of the Father's Day event is meant to be a starting point; either a celebration of existing relationships or a reason to form first connections.

We are asking vendors to come out and provide information about their services to participating families. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many children.

Threads Miami ~ Weaving the Fabric of a Stronger Future

The world is rapidly changing around us. If the nonprofit and philanthropic sector is to thrive in the decades ahead, we must come together to assess the daunting challenges and incredible opportunities that face us.  That's why Independent Sector and our convening partners will be holding critical community conversations about the trends, obstacles, and opportunities that will affect every organization and individual working toward the common good over the next 20 years. We're calling these community conversations Threads.

Independent Sector invites you to our Thread in Miami. This will be a rare opportunity for a vibrant cross-section of leaders and practitioners to meet face-to-face. We will share our research on the trends that are shaping the future. Then, together, we'll identify how best to address obstacles and leverage opportunities as we move forward into a changing landscape.

This is a unique opportunity to expand your network across boundaries, elevate the issues that define the charitable sector in South Florida, and lend your voice to a conversation that can change the way we work as a sector.

2016 Financially Assisted Agencies (FAA) Request For Proposals & Renewal

In providing for human service's needs, Palm Beach County augments its own services mix by providing financial assistance to community-based organizations. Financially Assisted Agencies (FAA) is a program within the Administrative section of the Department of Community Services. It was established in the early 1980s. Funded organizations are monitored by the Community Services Department to maintain strict fiscal and service integrity. Funding given by the Board of County Commissioners to local health and human service program agencies throughout Palm Beach County is managed by several staff within the department. The funds are monitored by two program monitors.

Data collected from the funded agencies as well as other County resources for planning purposes is managed by a two planners. The department staff operates under the supervision of Channell Wilkins, Director of Community Services. A volunteer, Board of County Commissioner's appointed Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) has input on the FAA process as well. The mission of the CAC is to "assist" the Board of County Commissioners in the assessment of need, planning and implementation and evaluation of the System of Care, as defined in the Health and Human Services Element of the Palm Beach County Comprehensive Plan." Essentially, the committee recommends service priorities prior to the RFP process. They base these recommendations on community assessments and other information gathering processes. Submission through the website must be completed by May 9, 2014 at  5:00 p.m. in order for a proposal to be considered.
