Improving Drinking Water Quality and Water Pressure
New water mains mean better drinking water and increased water pressure for 250-plus Belle Glade residents and businesses. The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department's (PBCWUD) Water Main and Services Replacement Project affects properties bordered by SW 18th Street on the west, South Main Street on the east, SW Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. on the north and SW Avenue G on the south." The new water mains will replace existing water pipes that have deteriorated," said PBCWUD Director Jim Stiles. "Some are leaking and some are too small to handle the flow."
One of many infrastructure projects in PBCWUD's 2015-2020 Capital Improvement Program, the project involves installing new water mains, moving water meters to the front of properties and installing piping to connect the relocated water meters to residences and businesses in the area. From start to finish, construction could last up to one year. Residents and business owners will learn more about the project and have an opportunity to ask questions of PBCWUD staff and contractors.

2016 Financially Assisted Agencies (FAA) Request For Proposals & Renewal
In providing for human service's needs, Palm Beach County augments its own services mix by providing financial assistance to community-based organizations. Financially Assisted Agencies (FAA) is a program within the Administrative section of the Department of Community Services. It was established in the early 1980s. Funded organizations are monitored by the Community Services Department to maintain strict fiscal and service integrity. Funding given by the Board of County Commissioners to local health and human service program agencies throughout Palm Beach County is managed by several staff within the department. The funds are monitored by two program monitors.
Data collected from the funded agencies as well as other County resources for planning purposes is managed by a two planners. The department staff operates under the supervision of Channell Wilkins, Director of Community Services. A volunteer, Board of County Commissioner's appointed Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) has input on the FAA process as well. The mission of the CAC is to "assist" the Board of County Commissioners in the assessment of need, planning and implementation and evaluation of the System of Care, as defined in the Health and Human Services Element of the Palm Beach County Comprehensive Plan." Essentially, the committee recommends service priorities prior to the RFP process. They base these recommendations on community assessments and other information gathering processes. Submission through the website must be completed by May 9, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. in order for a proposal to be considered.
