Rock Legends: People's Choice

Rock Legends: People's Choice is part rock concert...part rock tribute...all rock n' roll. Rock Legends combines all of these elements to create a show that is the only one of its kind. In this unique rock and roll revue created by audience favorite Billy McGuigan (of Yesterday & Today:

The interactive Beatles Experience and Rave On: The Buddy Holly Experience), audiences are given the opportunity to vote, through the power of their applause, for the songs and music they want to hear. Rock Legends' musical choices take audiences on a journey from the 50s rock and roll of Elvis, Buddy, and Patsy Cline, to the psychedelic 60s of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin. They'll hit the groove of the 

70s with the Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and the piano men - Billy and Elton and even dabble in the music of the 80s with the likes of Tom Petty, U2 and more! Rock Legends takes on the personality and taste of the audience making each show unique!

Glades Stop The Violence and Crime Prayer Walk

"Let's spread the message of love and peace amongst our community" 

The Glades communities will unite in prayer and agreement on Saturday, February 21, 2015, for the "Third Stop the Violence and Crime Prayer Walk." In an effort to make this event a great success, we are asking dedicated community organizations to join us and by being a vendor. This will be a great opportunity for the residents to learn about the valuable resources available in the Glades as we are hoping to draw residents of all ages. Following the walk, residents will meet at Lyons Park in Belle Glade where they can enjoy refreshments and visit your vendor tables. We are asking that all participating vendors be set up no later than 1:30 p.m. on the day of the walk. Please bring your table, chairs and tent, if you need one.

Thank You from PBSO and Family of Seven in Need

On January 2, 2015 a local family of seven lost all of their worldly possessions in a devastating apartment fire that occurred near the City of Pahokee. With the combined efforts of Palm Beach Sheriff's Office West Detention Center, Road Patrol Division and because of our partnership with a host of private citizens as well as several local organizations we have accomplished our mission!!!  Without the kindness, compassion and generosity of so many in our community this would not have been possible. 

The family has been so very appreciative of each and every blessing that they have received and wanted us to tell you all "thank you, thank you, thank you" on their behalf.  The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Western Region  would like to express their sincerest gratitude to each and every one who chose to be a part of this effort.  Making a positive difference in the lives of others is an experience that makes a lasting and memorable impression in the hearts and minds of all involved. Thank you all for making great memories with us.

Mental Health First Aid for Adults

8-hour course brought to you by Alpert Jewish Family and Children's Service. Someone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis. You can help them. You are more likely to encounter someone - friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or member of the community - in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. 

Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Mental Health First Aid course - first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resources professionals, and caring citizens. Sometimes, the best first aid is you. Take the course, save a life, strengthen your community.

9th Annual Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposium

Practical aspect of Sickle Pain with emerging medical treatment and integrative promising therapies to treat Sickle pain symposium will provide an interactive and informative platform for patients, advocates, and healthcare providers and scientists to understand sickle pain. It is intended to improve the treatment strategies, advance targeted research on sickle pain and provide comfort to the patients. Presentation will include first hand patients' own description of sickle pain, clinical understanding of sickle pain, and advances in medical and integrative approaches in sickle pain.

Avoiding the Cultural "Bumps" - The Culture of Workplace Bullying and Harassment

In recent years, we have seen a rise in incidences of workforce bullying and harassment. Bullying can be covert or overt and takes on a wide variety of forms. Workplace bullying, like childhood bullying, has individuals or groups using persistent aggressive or unreasonable behavior against a co-worker or subordinate. This bullying can be verbal or nonverbal; psychological or physical; abuse or humiliation. While often subtle, bullying or harassment incidents frequently stem from cultural differences. With changing demographics and increased diversity in our organizations; race, ethnicity, language, accents, religion, age and sexual orientation, are often at the root of the bullying. Organizations are often confronted with situations of a cultural nature that can often prove "sticky" to handle. Responses to these situations not only affect employee relations and staff morale; but can lead to litigation. This interactive workshop will explore real life workplace scenarios and their origins, while exploring resolutions.

New Guide Helps Schools Respond to Labor and Sex Trafficking

A guide has recently been released by the U.S. Department of Education on recognizing and responding to both labor and sex child trafficking in schools. The three primary goals of this resource are: to provide educators information on risk factors, to identify potential children at risk, and to help create protocols and policies in schools which address this increasingly widespread issue.
