Palm Beach County Library Presents: Presidents & their First Ladies
Gerald, "Gerry" Ford had one goal, to be elected by his congressional peers as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ironically, he did not achieve this dream. But he did become the first un-elected Vice-President and President of the United States. Ford's honesty and forthrightness helped to heal the nation after the Watergate scandals. His wife, Betty Ford, was maybe this nation's most outspoken first lady and many of the topics she spoke about caused her husband political difficulties such as her support for the ERA and Roe vs Wade decision. But her speaking out on her personal difficulties such as breast cancer and alcohol medicinal drug addiction brought these topics to the forefront and saved many peoples lives.
The story of Ford's time in the White House with his wife Betty is brought to life by the veteran writing and acting team of husband and wife William and Sue Wills. Their engaging performance is a "must see" for history buffs, students, and anyone interested in human interest stories (60 min.).

Glades Central Seniors Criminal Justice Academy Service Project
The senior class of the Criminal Justice Academy is assigned an annual community service project. We usually volunteer our time at a nursing home; clean up in the community and participating in any activity on campus. This year, students decided they wanted to be a blessing to their community. After reading the Palm Beach Post, Criminal Justice Instructor Tara Price stumbled on a section called "Season to Share". It spoke about several families in need during the holiday season and she realized that one of the families was one of our own. This family had three students in Glades Central's Criminal Justice Academy. She shared this article with the senior class and they were overwhelmed with excitement about helping this family. All agreed that we would not talk about our activity outside of the classroom, and they would learn the importance of giving back.
After sharing the idea with Principal Moore, she wholeheartedly agreed with adopting the family.
She allowed the academy to have two (2) dress down day fundraisers to collect money. Each student purchased a toy for the family's smaller children. With the funds collected the academy was able to present the family with a check and more than 35 gifts and a gently used computer.
The academy students were very glad they were able to participate in this project during this festive season to help one of our own Raider family members. We pray that their smiles will be even larger this season. The academy is committed to "Building a Brand".
The Criminal Justice Academy would like to say thank you to Mrs. Moore and the entire faculty and staff of Glade Central Community High School for their continued support. We could not have done this without them.
Pictured are the Criminal Justice students who participated in the service project, Ms. Tara Price (Criminal Justice Academy Instructor), Ms. Sherry Canty (Magnet Coordinator) & Ms. Moore (Glades Central's Principal).
