VITA Program of United Way of Palm Beach County is Recruiting Volunteers

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national program staffed by local volunteers to provide free tax preparation and e-filing of returns to qualified taxpayers. The VITA Program is an invaluable service United Way of Palm Beach County has been providing to the community for the last eleven years. It targets individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits. The program processed more than 95,000 tax returns yielding over $152 million in refunds and providing an estimated $226 million economic impact for Palm Beach County.

Volunteers are the key to the VITA Program's success. As we enter the program's twelfth year of service, United Way needs your help recruiting 200 volunteers in November and December. Tax season is January through April 2015. No experience is required and there are opportunities that don't involve preparing taxes.

One Roth Award will be presented annually in addition to the other four Celebrating Solutions Awards. Eligible programs may be nominated for both the Celebrating Solutions and Roth awards but may receive only one $10,000 grant.  To be eligible for the award, a program's primary focus must address the issue of intimate partner violence. The nominated program, agency or organization, and the core components of the program being nominated, must have been operating for a minimum of three years (established no later than September 2010 for the 2013-14 award year); be operating when the nomination is made; and be part of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) or government agency.
