Internet Essentials Learning Zone Breakfast
Comcast and the Urban League of Palm Beach County are leading a collaboration of community organizations, schools and local governments in the creation of three Internet Essentials Learning Zones that expand access to free digital literacy training and computers in key areas of Palm Beach County. Internet Essentials Learning Zone sites are located in the cities of West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, and the tri-city area of "the Glades".
The zones complement many of the economic development, technology, and education initiatives already underway in predominantly low-income areas. Offerings include computer courses, computer based training, and/or computer lab hours for young people, seniors, families, and the community at large, with specific emphasis on workforce development. Join the Urban League of Palm Beach County and Comcast at the Glades Initiative to learn more about the Internet Essentials Learning Zone. Breakfast will be provided.

City of Belle Glade First Time Buyers' Home Ownership Program
The city of Belle Glade is advocating its First Time Homebuyer's Program; the revolving Loan Fund (RLF). The RLF program is a self-replenishing, home financing option funded through the city, to assist homebuyers in the purchase or construction of their first home. The program will provide access to a flexible source of capital that can be used alone or in conjunction with more conventional sources.
Applicants will be processed on a first come/first serve basis. Program goals include providing decent safe housing for citizens and increasing affordable home ownership by providing eligible first-time homebuyers with funding or gap funding for the purchase or construction of a home.
Eligible uses for the RLF include purchase of an existing residence or construction of a detached single family residence with a maximum of 1,200 square feet (with or without garage).

This decision has been made even though the EFSP National Board and has still has not allocated funds to any local jurisdictions. Children's Services Council Releases Child First Request for Proposals
Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County released a Request for Proposals (RFP) November 14, 2014, seeking 1-2 nonprofit agencies and/or government organizations to replicate and implement with fidelity the evidence-based Child First intervention in targeted zip codes throughout Palm Beach County. Child First is an intensive early childhood home-visiting intervention that works within an early childhood system of care to decrease the incidence of serious emotional disturbance and learning problems, and abuse and neglect, among high-risk, very young children and their families. CareerSource Palm Beach County Names Charles Duval West Career Center Manager
CareerSource Palm Beach County announced today that Charles Duval was named center manager for the West Career Center located in Belle Glade. Mr. D uval will have the overall operational responsibility of the West Career Center where area residents are assisted with job search activities such as developing a resume and interviewing skills. In addition, he will act as community liaison for the Glades communities.
Mr. Duval began his career with Palm Beach County's workforce development board in 2009 as a youth outreach career consultant in the Belle Glade center working with a summer youth employment program where he was instrumental in placing approximately 350 Glades area youth in temporary jobs. Most recently he was an account manager helping area businesses fill their open positions with qualified, local candidates. A graduate of the University of Florida, Mr. Duval earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in education. He is a Palm Beach County resident and lives in Royal Palm Beach.
More than 11,000 visitors each month receive help from the specialized services at two career centers in West Palm Beach and Belle Glade. Services include:
For career seekers: Classes and facilities for job search; career development/consulting/ placement services; grants for job training for those who qualify; assessments; programs for persons with disabilities and priority of service for U.S. military veterans. There is no cost to career seekers for services. Thanksgiving Food Drive
It is approximated that 17 million American households, including 4 million seniors, struggled to put food on the table. It is important that we face this problem head on! Throughout the months of October and November, Representative Rader will be working with Dot and Ruby Helping Hands to host a Traditional Thanksgiving Meal for families in the Glades Community.

Mary Byron Project Announces 2015 Roth Award for Domestic Violence Programs
One Roth Award will be presented annually in addition to the other four Celebrating Solutions Awards. Eligible programs may be nominated for both the Celebrating Solutions and Roth awards but may receive only one $10,000 grant. To be eligible for the award, a program's primary focus must address the issue of intimate partner violence. The nominated program, agency or organization, and the core components of the program being nominated, must have been operating for a minimum of three years (established no later than September 2010 for the 2013-14 award year); be operating when the nomination is made; and be part of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) or government agency. The program should be replicable, or, if it is national in scope, should have applications for individual communities, regardless of their size or ethnic population.
