This workshop on November 14 with John Foley of Legal Aid Society will bring behavioral health providers and attorneys up to date on the newest changes to HIPAA and the Florida Information Protection Act (FIPA). FIPA overlaps with HIPAA and significantly increases regulations for providers. The new guidelines are stricter and reporting has quicker time frames with harsher penalties to providers. Continuing education credits are available for attorneys (CLEs) and behavioral health professionals (CEUs).

CareerSource Palm Beach County Names Charles Duval West Career Center Manager
CareerSource Palm Beach County announced today that Charles Duval was named center manager for the West Career Center located in Belle Glade. Mr. D uval will have the overall operational responsibility of the West Career Center where area residents are assisted with job search activities such as developing a resume and interviewing skills. In addition, he will act as community liaison for the Glades communities.
Mr. Duval began his career with Palm Beach County's workforce development board in 2009 as a youth outreach career consultant in the Belle Glade center working with a summer youth employment program where he was instrumental in placing approximately 350 Glades area youth in temporary jobs. Most recently he was an account manager helping area businesses fill their open positions with qualified, local candidates. A graduate of the University of Florida, Mr. Duval earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in education. He is a Palm Beach County resident and lives in Royal Palm Beach.
More than 11,000 visitors each month receive help from the specialized services at two career centers in West Palm Beach and Belle Glade. Services include:
For career seekers: Classes and facilities for job search; career development/consulting/ placement services; grants for job training for those who qualify; assessments; programs for persons with disabilities and priority of service for U.S. military veterans. There is no cost to career seekers for services. For employers: Recruitment/assessments/referrals of qualified candidates; space and staff assistance for screening/interviewing candidates; grants for training new or existing employees; outplacement assistance; talent supply/salary/demand information.

The Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center is kicking off its free outdoor concert series with Derrick Hadley & the Motowners! Take a walk down town with the sounds of Motown. This up-beat show is a song and dance tribute to The Temptations, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. The show also includes a tribute to other class soul artists of the 60's and 70's. Come out early and enjoy a great dinner from one of Gourmet Truck Expo's excellent food trucks! The food trucks will begin serving at 6:00 pm, with the concert starting at 7:00 p.m.

2014-15 PBC Legislative Delegation Public Hearings and Workshops
To be placed on the official agenda of a Delegation hearing, presenters must have completed a Participation Request Form (a copy of which is enclosed ) and have submitted all printed materials to the delegation office 5 business days prior to the scheduled hearing. 15 copies of printed material should be submitted to be included in Members' Hearing folders. Please note: The Delegation Office is not responsible for printing out materials for the presenter. Maximum time allotted for each presentation is THREE minutes. This time limit will be strictly enforced as a courtesy to all scheduled speakers. Those presenting local bills should meet personally with members of the Legislative Delegation prior to the hearing at which they will make their presentation. At least one delegation member attending the hearing at which you are present should have a prior working knowledge of your request. In preparation for Diabetes Week 2014, the Diabetes Coalition is in need of Glades area organizations and churches that already have a large number of people coming to your facility who may be at-risk for diabetes - willing to serve as a site to perform diabetes risk assessments during the week of November 10 through November 16. They are also in need of volunteers to help individuals complete the risk assessment - which is a paper questionnaire, offered in English, Spanish, and Creole. Training is available for volunteers in how to complete the assessment. Each person screened will receive a resource bag.

Mary Byron Project Announces 2015 Roth Award for Domestic Violence Programs
One Roth Award will be presented annually in addition to the other four Celebrating Solutions Awards. Eligible programs may be nominated for both the Celebrating Solutions and Roth awards but may receive only one $10,000 grant. To be eligible for the award, a program's primary focus must address the issue of intimate partner violence. The nominated program, agency or organization, and the core components of the program being nominated, must have been operating for a minimum of three years (established no later than September 2010 for the 2013-14 award year); be operating when the nomination is made; and be part of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) or government agency. The program should be replicable, or, if it is national in scope, should have applications for individual communities, regardless of their size or ethnic population.
