This is a free seminar offered by the FDIC, Family Success/ Community Action Agency, and Florida Prosperity, designed to present the basics of classroom instructions to enable and empower volunteers to deliver approximately one-hour long course on the FDIC's Money Smart curriculum to communities. The primary purposr is to provide the class participant with tools that may enhance their skills as a classroom instructor in teaching Money Smart Money modules. The seminar will also cover some ideas and recommendation on how to present the Money Smart curriculum. Participants are encourage to teach one or more of the Money Smart modules to community members within the next 12 months.

Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Opens CenteringPregnancy« in the Glades
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County has opened a new office in Belle Glade. Located at 1077A South Main Street, the organization will provide CenteringPregnancy«, an evidence based group prenatal care program for pregnant women in the Glades.With generous funding from the Quantum Foundation and March of Dimes and in partnership with OB/GYN Specialists of Lakeside and Children's Services Council, CenteringPregnancy integrates health assessment, education and support into a unified program within a group setting. Eight to twelve pregnant women with similar gestational ages will meet over ten sessions throughout their pregnancy, receive prenatal check ups from a medical provider with OB/GYN Specialists of Lakeside, health education about their pregnancy and newborn care, time to talk about health concerns, healthy snacks at every session and the opportunity to build relationships with other women in the program. Fathers are also welcome to participate with their partner.

Diabetes Coalition Looking for Volunteers & Sites to Conduct Risk Assessments During Diabetes Week
Help the coalition in their quest to identify individuals at are risk for diabetes - so they can get the help and access to resources they need!
In preparation for Diabetes Week 2014, the Diabetes Coalition is in need of Glades area organizations and churches that already have a large number of people coming to your facility who may be at-risk for diabetes - willing to serve as a site to perform diabetes risk assessments during the week of November 10 through November 16. They are also in need of volunteers to help individuals complete the risk assessment - which is a paper questionnaire, offered in English, Spanish, and Creole. Training is available for volunteers in how to complete the assessment. Each person screened will receive a resource bag.

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) Poster Contest. HHM 2014 Poster Contest - this year's theme is "Beat the Tricks - Ganale a los Enga˝os." The link below includes poster guidelines, Beat the Tricks' video, facts, and key information. Participants, teachers, and/or parents can download guidelines from the same site in English and Spanish. We encourage all 5th grade students to participate.
